Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

I have a 3 year old Amana top refdg. with a bottom drawer freezer. Every 6 to 8 weeks the condensing coil with the fins will become frozen, and the refdg. will no keep cool. When this happens, I take a heat gun to de-ice the coil, and it starts to work fine. Why does this keep happing and how do I solve the problem?

You have either a bad defrost timer , defrost bimetal , or heater . Turn the fridge into defrost manually (find the tech sheet telling you how ) and check the amps in defrost . If above 2 amps , then timer is bad . If no amps , bimetal (small cylinder with 2 wires ) on top of coils , or heater is bad .

Hello,

The problem your having is the defrost drain is blocked,to access the drain the freezer drawer must be removed then remove the back panel of the freezer,to remove the drawer pull it all the way out, look and find a phillips headed screw on the outer side of the slide rail near the door remove those screws(one on each side) lift the drawer off of the slide rails, remove rear panel and the drain will be under the evaperator coil(the stainless steel coil) BEWARE the fins on the coil are very sharp and will cut you. if you dont think you can do it call for service and tell them that the defrost drain is blocked.

Hope this helps and if it does please give me 4 thumbs up

Refrigerator is warm, but freezer is cold and still making ice. This is a 3 year old Amanna Bottom Freezer model. There is frost in the top of the freezer drawer when I putt it out.

you will need to defrost it. the freezer is what keeps your fridge cool. the vent where the cool air goes up to your fridge is sealed or frozen.
unplug the fridge and open the doors and let it defrost.
plug it back in after a few hours and it should be working again.

Water is collecting in the bottom of the refrigerator below the drawers. Water was also in the lunch meat drawer.

Your freezer defrost coils are probably frozen. Or the drain tube is plugged. Remove the rear panel from the freezer and defrost the defrost coils if necessary. Make sure that the drain tube underneath the coils is not plugged with ice or other foreign matter. You may have to thaw out the tube. If you don't make sure that the tube is clear, excess condensate will continue to drain into the fridge. Good luck!

Bottom freezer suddenly had condensation and light wasn't working

That could be the fan in the freezer with ice build up in the area of the evaporator coils which would indicate a problem with the auto defrost system the evaporator coils are behind the back panel of the freezer .

Amana bottom freezer problem

It sounds like the condenser coil might be freezing up. This happened to me on my bottom freezer. The cooling part of your fridge is only in the back of the freezer compartment. The cold air from the freezer blows up through a vent in the back to the fridge and comes out at the top. If the coils do not defrost (which is what happened with mine) the air flow is blocked by the ice and can't get to the fridge compartment. Your freezer will still be cold but your fridge won't. If you pull the plug on it and time things right you can defrost the coils but this will only postpone the problem. Both will work for awhile again until the coils ice up again. You can also pull out the freezer drawere and try to defrost the coil with a blow dryer. You have to disconnect the icemaker and pull out the back panel behind the freezer to get to it though.

Sub Zero isn't cold enough

Sounds like it might just be a simple as a dirty coil. Use a coil brush (you can get at homedepot)

cdda64b.jpg Clean the dust and from the back and bottom of the fridge. The coils pickup alot of dust over time making the fridge become ineffecent. One some subzero units your condenser coils are on top. Use the brush in conjuction with the vacuum to get it clean and watch your fridge for a hours to see if that helps before you call a repair tech out. Make sure you unplug the fridge when your doing this.

Amana BX22A2W - freezer works, fridge not cooling

Same problem here with an Amana refrigerator with the freezer on the bottom. I removed the back panels and vacuumed dust and cat hair out. The back panel in the freezer was frosted over with ice on the bottom. I removed the shelves and food and used a hairdryer to loosen the panel. The ice maker made it harder to remove the plastic panel so I pulled it back and saw the cooling fins frozen solid. I used the hairdryer to melt the ice and a shop vacuum to collect the water. It works like new again.
