Re: hooking a laptop to a lcd tv

The Toshiba Satellite a105 has an S-Video output (small circular port on the left of the laptop). You can use this output if you have a n S-Video input on your TV. To get it to work you have to be in TV mode or some combination with TV. Hit Fn-F5 until TV is displayed. At this point you should be able to see some sort of video on your TV. Sometimes the TV won't be listed as available. The setting is flaky. A reboot will solve this. I've also got it to switch over after playing with multiple settings. Too difficult to describe.

If the image is rolling and black and white then you may need to switch from PAL to NTSC TV mode. Go to the video driver advanced tool (Intel in my case) via the Display Advanced Properties.

I hope this helps.

Re: hooking a laptop to a lcd tv

If your LCD TV has VGA input, then you can buy a cable that goes vga out of laptop to VGA in of TV... Also you can get an audio cable that goes from line out of your laptop to 2 rca jacks for your TV...

Radio Shack sells both types of cables - and you can also buy them from many online retailers if you look for video or audio video cables... I got a paired set from

How do I Connect a Dell Latitude E6500 to a Sanyo Television

Check your ports on the lap top see if you have s video or hdmi or dvi or VGA the best is hdmi if you have that get a cable for either one of you connections also match connections from the lap top to what you have for your TV more than likely if they are both fairly new you should have hdmi connections for both get a cable that is long enough. I get my cables at their prices are the bomb.
Connect them together both ends to lap top and to tv then make sure that you have a line in jack stereo jack with RCA ends hook that to the back of your tv and your lap top in stereo jack even better to your surround sound system. Set your TV to AVI 1 or 2 or DVI or whichever is your connection start a movie on the lap top and turn your sound on and see if you have a picture on your screen you should have the same thing as what is showing on your monitor on your lap top. Adjust settings and have fun!

There is usually a keyboard combination to switch between the laptop screen and your TV.

The keyboard toggle is done by holding down the Fn key and pressing one of the F keys (between F3 and F6).

Good luck.

Sounds like you are using an S-Video out, unless you have the Dell dongle to also split out the audio, you'll have to out the audio via the headphone jack

MY Dell Inspiron 8600 all of a sudden the LCD only comes up white

There will be a function switch to select the view mode ( Lap top monitor only/ LCD only / Lap top monitor and LCD Monitor) Select either the last two.

I hope this will solve your issue.

Good Luck.

If my solution proves useful please accept it.
