Question about Samsung 943BWX Monitor

1 Answer

Monitor resolution setting

I have a samsung 943bwx monitor and every time I turn on my computer it gives me a message saying that it is not set to the optimal resolution of 1440x90 60hz. I have a Mac G4 with 10.4.11 operating system & when I try to change the resolution it doesn't have the option that the monitor is asking for. It doesn't really look bad but it seems to be a little stretched horizontally. What can I do to fix it?

I'm not real good with hardware so you'll have to excuse my ignorance. Where do I find that information?

  • Yannick Verhoog May 11, 2010

In Windows you could find that info by running dxdiag or checking system information. You could try right-clicking the desktop and select any image/graphics related program.

I do not have a lot of experience with Macs but can you please tell me the model of your graphics card? The software that comes with the drivers could help.

I would check for new drivers for the video card. They usually have higher resolution abilities for these fancy wide screen monitors.

When i turn on my computer i get the message"NOT OPTIMUM MODE, RECOMMENDED MODE 1280x1024 60Hz" What is the meaning if this?

This is just your computer trying to give you the best resolution your monitor can handle. With the extent of modern technology being what it is, most devices will communicate information between themselves without a human being needed for most of it. This case is a perfect example. Many new monitors will "tell" the computer what their maximum resolution and refresh rate are, and the computer will automatically set your video card to use those settings. Resolution is the "1280x1024" part of the message, which refers to the number of pixels and size of area to be used on the monitor. Refresh rate is the "60Hz" part of the message, and isn't really important unless you see a flicker on your monitor or are getting into the advanced usage of a large, powerful monitor system.

The message you received was because of a miscommunication between the monitor and the computer. The monitor had no factory set value for its "Optimum Mode", so your computer was forced to ask you for input. The recommended mode should work just fine for you, so feel free to ignore that message unless it starts causing you problems, like an odd flicker in your screen or the screen not displaying your desktop properly.

The monitor is giving a zoomed in view . its not giving the full view of the desktop screen rather a section of it is zoomed in . there are no settings to zoom out .??

ur setting may be set to low resolution...
try doing this
go to Desktop/right click/properties/Settings/Screen Resolution/
What do u c...what's the resolution there...800x600...
if the slider(pointer) is active use it to increase it to say 1024x768, 1152x864, 1280x1024 etc.
use the correct resolution....as too much of resolution will make ur monitor un-viewable...
also try if ur monitor has some press button on them to make changes to the correct setting/zooming of the screen image...

The menu constantly pops-up on my Samsung 17 inch LDC monitor

what does the pop up menu say? I'm guessing it says something like "Optimal settings are 1280x1024, Press 1 to confirm, press 2 to disable". If the message is anything like this, your monitor is trying to tell you that your display settings are less than optimal. You can either disable the message by "pressing 2" or changing your display settings to the recommended resolution. If the menu you're getting is just the control panel and there's no actual message, leave your computer on, reach around the back and disconnect the power cable from the monitor, wait 5 seconds and plug it back in. Samsung monitors sometimes have a glitch and need to be reset.

Wont work with new computer

Since this was a new out of the box computer, Safe Mode was not allowed. In order to change monitor settings (resolution), I had to use another monitor, in this case a newer CRT. With the CRT, the computer booted up, no problem. Once booted, I turned down the monitor resolution and saved. Now when the Princeton LCD was plugged in and the computer restarted, everything works fine. Now the resolution could be set to limits of the monitor.
