Question about Microsoft Computers & Internet

Microsoft CD/license with Ada Byron on security hologram needed

Help! Sometime between 1999 and 2003 Microsoft released CDs and license booklets with hologram images for security. For example, Windows 95 has a hologram of a child watching television on the license. On the NT booklet, there is a watermark of an adult Ada Lovelace.

I seek the CD or license with the image of Ada Byron/Lovelace as a child. She is looking down and to the left. I have contacted my license contractors and even Microsoft and no one knows. I think I shredded the CDs years ago and hence do not have them. I knew I should have saved one!

Please if you have old CDs and licenses laying around, or you have a great memory please reply.

I have tried ebay but typing in "Microsoft CD" or "Microsoft License" gives you many hits with no specific images of the license or CD. The ones I have found are not very detailed. I even found folks who deal with old software specifically and I am working with them. I even have a $50 reward for the image if I receive it by next Monday!

  • aorobert Jul 22, 2009

I have tried Ebay but the results by typing "Microsoft CD" or "Microsoft License" are limited at best. If I knew the exact disk the image was on then retrieving a copy would be very easy. Unfortunately this may be a Select CD, store bought, or OEM, I am very unsure. I am trying all avenues which is why I am here.

  • aorobert Jul 22, 2009

I have the manual with her as an adult on Windows NT. The image of her as a child is this one:

    http://www.kerryr.net/images/pioneers/ga...

I need the physical CD or license itself, not for the software but solely for the image. If you can tell me the product I can see if I have it here, if I do not let me know if you would part with one of yours, I'll even give you credit for providing the CD during display over Blackhat and Defcon.

  • aorobert Jul 22, 2009

I am looking for the physical license or CD to hold in my hand. If you have one that you can part with, great, thank you, it means so much to me. If not, please tell me what the image is on for license or CD is that I seek and I can go on ebay and other resources using that additional information. here is the image I seek on a license or CD. http://www.kerryr.net/images/pioneers/ga...

  • aorobert Jul 22, 2009

I wish to obtain the CD or License, or at least the name of the software of license on which I may find the image.

  • aorobert Jul 22, 2009

Is this the CD or the license? OEM, Select, or retail? Please I need more details, there is a LOT of stuff out there. If you can send an image to me please, I am at gmail.com and my email address is my username here.

  • aorobert Jul 22, 2009

The child in front of the TV is the common one, but I *KNOW* I have seen Ada Byron!

  • aorobert Jul 23, 2009

This is the image on the NT license: http://media.codethinked.com/images/post... It is a watermark. It is not what I seek. I have this.

The image I seek is as of her as a child. Microsoft also used a small boy in front of a television set which is NOT the hologram I seek.

The original image link was from an engraving by W.H.Mote of Ada Byron when she was four years old. The link I posted earlier is the exact image that I seek, but I wish it on a CD or paper license in the form used by Microsoft.

  • aorobert Jul 23, 2009

I seek an original CD or license with the child image of Ada on it.

  • aorobert Jul 23, 2009

I triedhttp://www.oldsoftware.com/dealers.html, they never replied to my email, and they said in their page they do not reply if the answer is no.

  • aorobert Jul 23, 2009

Websites generally do not post holograms as part of their sales item. Many also do not want to look through all their CDs to try to find something like this. That is why I am asking here if anyone HAS the CD or license instead of SUSPECTS where it MAY be.

  • aorobert Jul 23, 2009

I am exploring other avenues, I kind of want to find a human being here who actually has the item.

  • aorobert Jul 23, 2009

I do not recall the CD or license paper, or even spine of a box on which the image was first seen. That is why I am here. All I know is that I saw it before 2003 and after 1999. I have checked OEM, Select, and Retail CDs. I do not have any boxes, it could be on those. I even found some of the rare "nude baby" NT licenses. But no Ada.

  • aorobert Jul 23, 2009

It'd be great if someone said yea this is the CD let me send a high res photo to you... :>

  • aorobert Jul 23, 2009

Earlier in my postings I have links to the images of what she does and does not look like.

I saw her image on a hologram (correctly called a stereogram) that was either on the spine of a retail box, A CD, an OEM license paper, a retail license paper, or a Select license paper. This was between late 1999 and 2003 so this would not be on Vista or anything since 2003. I am starting to lean towards MS paper licenses or the spine of the box as a possible source, but I am unsure.

  • aorobert Jul 23, 2009

    Thanks please let me know.

  • aorobert Jul 24, 2009

Good information but unfortunately this is the image of her as an adult which I have, I need the child image.

  • aorobert Jul 24, 2009

Already asked those guys before, thanks.

  • aorobert Jul 24, 2009

I suppose the image can be on the retail box maybe, it would make sense to have several different Ada images, but on the same product, hmmm.

  • aorobert Jul 24, 2009

I'm calling Microsoft and even they are scratching their heads. Is my request too ancient?

  • aorobert Jul 24, 2009

I tried those links already, thank you. They were unable to help.

I want the picture because I own the original 1820 watercolor portrait on porcelain. It will be on display next week in Las Vegas, NV and I thought it nice to have the Microsoft Hologram with it. If I cannot have it by next week I shall still seek it out, but it would just be nice to have it for next week.

I just got off the phone with the 4th person at Microsoft and they have no idea who I should talk to.

  • aorobert Jul 24, 2009

A search on google with the word "box" added gives you all the boxes that can appear on a Windows screen.

Please, if the answer is that simple I'd have found it already. I have been looking for quite some time on google and have yet to find the hologram, maybe no one ever posted it.

  • aorobert Jul 24, 2009

I already posted the link of Ada as a child that I seek on a hologram.

  • aorobert Jul 24, 2009

Yes I have that one of her as an adult. Dang this is a toughie!

  • aorobert Jul 25, 2009

Yes that is the picture I seek on a box spine, CD or license.

  • aorobert Jul 25, 2009

The white on white is her as an adult.

  • aorobert Jul 25, 2009

That link was from 1997 and sadly the product is not for sale. I have been looking for this for a few days now. Not many people have the OEM version, also nothing definitively points to her a as child yet.

  • aorobert Jul 25, 2009

Yup, tried the old software site.

  • aorobert Jul 25, 2009

It may have been another disk, but I am leaning to a paper license or the box spine. I could be wrong.

I know I saw it more than once, and I would still have it except I left town (called to war) and when I got back some massive housecleaning has taken place.

IF ANYONE CAN GIVE ME THE ITEM WITH SAID HOLOGRAM I'LL SEND YOU $100.

There, now maybe I will have folks looking under rocks and in the box that their Pentium 333MHz came in. :>

  • aorobert Jul 26, 2009

If I can receive the product before the show next week I will gladly give you, your business, or whomever you wish credit for the item. Something like "CD courtesy of Max's Deli."

  • aorobert Jul 26, 2009

Thanks for looking so hard. I wonder if the image was on an OEM disk or other format, such as Select, that consumers will not usually see. Anyone have a relative working for Microsoft?

  • aorobert Jul 26, 2009

Is it her as a child? Link is early in my posts. I think my email address is in the post too if you read back!

  • aorobert Jul 26, 2009

Thank you Ted. Yep I am sure her childlike image is not a watermark.

  • aorobert Jul 27, 2009

Well for what it is worth I'd 60% say it is not on a CD but a license or box.

  • aorobert Jul 27, 2009

I am interested because this is me:
    http://www.tgdaily.com/content/view/3660...

The image will be on display in Las Vegas in 48 hours. It would be nice to have the Microsoft use of it for the display.

  • aorobert Jul 27, 2009

Thank you Ted but I have those adult versions with the watermarks already. They are a nice accessory but not the one I seek. I guess this is good, if she was more popular I may have never been in this position to need it in the first place, ironically!

  • aorobert Jul 27, 2009

oldsoftware.com has the adult picture only, thank you though.

  • aorobert Jul 28, 2009

Yep, the adult pic is all over the place. One reader says he may have found it, fingers crossed!

  • aorobert Jul 28, 2009

kcfirewall - It is ADA, not LINDA. NT has her adult picture, I seek the child image.

  • aorobert Jul 28, 2009

kcfirewall - It is ADA, not LINDA. NT has her adult picture, I seek the child image.

  • aorobert Jul 28, 2009

I said nothing about a license "strip." One user says he saw it on the spine of the box, the license AND the CD. He is checking. It is just that this image was not on the most popular disc ten years ago.

  • aorobert Jul 29, 2009

I've asked lots of folks, now I am asking here. I would like folks to reply who know of the image, please do not send me to another site.

  • aorobert Aug 01, 2009

Please no random links, I can google too.

  • aorobert Aug 02, 2009

No not that one, I posted the picture I wanted the hologram of.

  • aorobert Aug 02, 2009

I have contacted Microsoft, they only deal with or support current software.

Look guys, I don't want to sound like a **** here, but posting a website for me to check is useless. I am checking websites. Now if YOU check the site you suggest first, then you can see if you are a dead end or not, rather than posting and walking away. Please don't malke it my job to try to think of what you meant. It's only one more step and if you are so sure of yourself then you can take that step easier than I can.

  • aorobert Aug 03, 2009

    It is on Avid software.

  • aorobert Aug 03, 2009

It is not on Avid software.

  • aorobert Aug 09, 2009

I have asked dealers and all. But you see, they are experts as to what the software product is and does, not one picture used once ten years ago. The best I found is a person who will look for $11/hr and they are not even sure what they are looking for. So that is why I am here.

  • aorobert Aug 10, 2009

    Still looking.

  • aorobert Aug 10, 2009

It is a physical image, not a picture on the software installation. It is on the CD or on the box or on the license. No need to install. Just pick up the item and look at it.

I am afraid getting old windows cd's plus keys will be a hard task, you may try second-hand-tech shops or ebay to get hold of an original disk or ask a friend to help you with a safecopy, or send a mail

Three options possible at present for you.1)if you want the orignal software cd version then only microsoft or the proper dealer of microsoft products can get it for you if its still manufacturing it. 2)on internet you can get the same version ,but it will not be orignal but a pirated versio.because it is is piorated it will miss some of its files and properties so sdome programs will not get loaded due to that. 3)the best option.in your area contact the local computer / hardware reparing engineer .they have both orignal and pirated software cd with them.they will give you rates of both the version also load it in your pc .the charges will be as per their services.but normally its very minimum. check out and reply.will be always waiting to help you.when ever you require more help.please keep updated.please do rate the solution if helped.thank you for using fixya.

Hey thanks allot for the feedback on this question, I have a few Windows CD's laying around but im very confused with you saying that the license strip with the product key has images on it, i know with experience that all the labels are is a holographic label with a few colors so that they cant be photo copied, Im looking at my old Windows 95 Booklet now and all im looking at is what i have just said, no images of people e.t.c.
Either you had a limited edition or it was a fake.
Thanks for contacting FixYa

This may help with your search the picture of Linda Lovelace is not on the disk itself but in the original license booklet her image has been found as a watermark (press) on the Windows 95 and NToperating systems license booklet. if you look around your local area you can still find stores that have and sell this you can probably have a look at the box book and disk to make sure its the one your looking for check the following link I'm not positive but i think this is what you need.

For Windows 98 and onwards Microsoftstarted using stickers and more technology related background imageslike Keyboards.

I found one on an old PictureIt OEM CD case. I'll be glad to send it to you as I'm sure I can find more at my office - we have scads of old SW in a store room.

This one is a watermark but I'll let you know if I find a hologram as well.

Shoot an e-mail to lauren@fixya.com to get permission for us to exchange contact info(normally not allowed) and I'll get it to you.

Thanks for asking this question, I had never heard of this and it's really cool.

My mistake not reading the entire thread. Mine is a headshot of her as an adult. I'll check at my office tonight or in the morning for you and put some feelers out to friends at Microsoft as well. If I can get anybody there on IM tonight I'll try now as it seems you are on a time constraint.

It's very faint and hard to be sure. I think it's the one you already have though.

I'll let you know if I come up with anything else tonight or tomorrow.

I just shot an e-mail to a bunch of MS contacts including some old timers - hopefully we'll get a good response back. I'm kicking myself in the **** for the two 55 gal. bags of old SW I trashed a month ago now. We still have a lot though and I'll take a look tonight.

Unfortunately, no luck at the office. Hopefully one of my other contacts will come through. I did find two copies of PictureIt that are complete and in the jewel case - even shrink wrapped with the adult version. They're in perfect condition and you're welcome to one if you'd like.

  • ted1430
    ted1430 Jul 28, 2009

No luck so far but one possibly useful detail for you. I found a Windows 95 OEM with the adult picture on it. Best guess is that this pushes the starting timeframe back at least one, probably two years from what you have been trying to hit.

Hello aorobert,

After looking for a couple of hours I have come to the conclusion that they must have made a VERY limited quantity of holograms using ada byron's image.

After searching at work and home for a Windows 95 or NT disc the only thing I could find is the Windows 95 User manual. On the cover is a Watermark of Ada Byrons image ,under which says "Augusta Ada Byron-Pioneer in Computer Programming".

The watermark is so faint I'm not sure it would make a great picture to use on a projector as I suspect you want. It is however the image you are looking for where shes looking to the left.

Just wanted to let you know what I was able to find.

I am sure as you have already googled this hologram was shipped with 95 and NT. By 98 they used more advanced holograms and security measures. I too will be digging under rocks. As I know I have a 95 book. I never had the box though so I doubt I will have any luck. I'm also going to stop in my local tech corps. They are a non-profit organization. I remember when I use to volunteer there back in the 95 days we had every kind of box and hologram their was. Good luck I will definitely let you know if I find it and will be keeping tabs to see if anyone else does.
Thank you,
Lee

I don't think it's to ancient. It's out there. Most likely if you go to google.com, than select the images tab, then search and it will show you only images of boxes, cd covers, and more.

Try this seller:

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Computers/Software/Other/auction-213886628.htm

The seller has this CD: Microsoft Windows 95 Starts Here/How & Why

It says on this article that the other CD-ROM is called "Microsoft Windows 95 Starts Here/How & Why" and is not always included. It has a little white-on-white relief of Augusta Ada Byron on it instead (though newer pressings of the Original release CD also have the Byron relief now).

Well, I found Ada on a copy of Windows 95, but not as a child. Looks more like Princess Leia

with a bun type hairdo, looking down and to the left. Product ID 02398-oem-0030164-11310. It is an OEM version for dist. with a new CTX computer.I'll keep looking

I have access to around 50 PCs which have got licences affixed to the cabinet and two spare in my purse. I can't see any holograms on most of them. I need to know first whether it came along with Operating System CD or Microsoft Office CD and If Operating system CD then which one 98, XP or NT. I have many friends in IT who have access to the same amount of PCs throughout this country I can seek their help also. But do let me know clearly which licence you wan't.

Today I checked all the PCs but nothing like this affixed on them. In our organisation we have a habbit of pasting every sticker on the cpu for future reference. Kindly give some more hints so i can find it out and let my friends also look for the same. Under present situation I myself know only this much that the hollogram should contain a female.

Your best line of attack on this problem is to use Ebay on a Wanted Item basis

The coverage is Worldwide so your chances are higher.

Other chance is Amazon where oddball items pop up on a regular basis

Hi there

I understand what you are looking for. As the image you have provided is from a manual from Windows NT, I am correct in assuming the image you are looking for is on the CD for Windows NT? Or is it possible the child image of Ada is on the hologram of a different Windows edition CD?

Thanks.

Not able to install XP on 845 zebronic motherboard Help

In order to install XP, check the following:

For most newer motherboards, your install CD must be Windows XP with Service Pack (SP) 2 or 3. If you have an older copy (SP1), it will lock up in a "Blue Screen of Death" during the install.

The install also requires a Microsoft version of Windows. If this board is a replacement in an existing PC and you are attempting to use a restore CD that came with the PC (marked Dell, HP or whatever brand), it won't install on anything other than the original motherboard.

If you have the Genuine Windows license code (usually located on a hologram sticker on the side of the PC case), you don't need to buy a new copy/license. Ask any of your geek-savvy friends if they can burn you a copy of XP with SP2 or SP3. This should work.

Finally, after installing you may get a message stating you've entered an invalid license code. If this happens, call the "800" number that pops up and explain you've replaced a defective motherboard - Microsoft should give you a new activation code at no charge.

Hope this helps.
