HI, this unit is equipped with with a thermistor that runs to the control board. you may have some issue here. have the thermistor inspected.

The thermistor is the principal temp regulator that relays the temp information to the main board.

Extended warranties usually are not worth the cost. My guess is that KitchenAid wants you to pay $73 out of pocket even though it should be absorbed as part of the warranty replacement of the refrigeration system.

Fridge motor seems to be running all the time. The tile floor below the freezer door is constantly warm as well, something that typically only happens in the summer. What might be causing this?

Hello and Welcome to FixYa!

When it seems like your unit is not getting proper air ventilation, Do make sure that the unit is placed, at proper location, so that the unit gets maximum air vents, Also there is a possibility (Although LOW) that the unit is getting loaded. This might be due to bad/leaked Refrigerant Gas, or due to bad compressor or bad capacitor, Well the list would go on, as this can occur due to numerous reasons, with the main emphasis on or around Compressor.
Concerned.

Hissing noise in freezer

When you observe this is your compressor quiet? Then most likely your refrigerator is in defrost mode. The water is coming off the evaporator (think of a very cold radiator) as the defrost heater element warms. This element is similar to the electric heating element in the bottom of your electric oven. the water hits it and it will hiss. This is part of the normal operation of a refrigerator. The defrost cycle usually lasts from 20-30 mins and will occur 4-6 times a day. If you are having trouble with frozen food melting then re-freezing, or the temps are on the warm side, you might need to have your defrost timer or defrost termination switch looked at.

Over tempature reset keeps beeping

its registering a warm temp, you reset it but when it checks again in 2 hours or so its still seeing a warm temp whichi s why the alrm is going off, id look at the contents of the refrig for signs of defrosting, icecream not hard enough, ice maker not producing and melting, moilk spoiling premature, butter too soft.

The outside metal around the freezer area is very warm.

We were informed that because of a lot of power outages and surges that the freezer was in constant defrost mode. Since the freezer had been in constant defrost for at least 5 days, we were told that the condenser would probably short out. Even though the fridge was 7 years new. We decided it would be cheaper in the long run to get a newer more energy efficient one, because we didn't know what other damage had been done and if fixing everything would just be too expensive and it could quit before everything was fixed.

Freezer too cold frosty, and refrigerator section too warm

Sounds like a defrost problem if the evaporator is frozen over. If it's just Ice blocking air transfer on a top freezer model, then it's a blocked defrost drain.
