Question about Whirlpool GS6NBEXR Side by Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

Not cooling/freezing 10 year old Kenmore, fan runs, compressor is very warm, nearly Hot. under condenser coils were extremely clogged full of dust. Last few days fridge has a popping sound every couple minutes, Also something else will click and humm for 10 seconds or so then it clicks again and the humming stops. All this sound is coming from the back near the compressor/relay. I inspected the overload relay and it rattled when I shook it (read this means its bad), so I bought a new overload relay and installed it, but may have wrecked it already. I did a dumb thing and tried to put the metal retaining clip back on it while plugged in and running and caught the clip on the relay, (POP) sparks flew and I had to reset the breaker. I examined the relay and it did not rattle, but I assume it could be bad now. I have now left it plugged in after resetting the breaker to see if it is just the dirty coils that caused my fridge to not cool/freeze. It is continuing to click and pop as it has the last few days.

My refrigerator is not cooling properly. How can I find the source of this problem?

The controls on a unit like that cannot be set to extremes on one side. If you set the freezer to the wrong setting or the refrigerator to high then the balance is bad. The other thing is that the coils inside the unit might have ice on them and the ice is not defrosting. That means that no air is flowing through them.

Freezer plate not freezing

is the compressor on? if not, start coil may be bad. if yes, check the airflow through the condenser (on the bottom). if it's clogged with dust, clean it out with a vacuum hose. if the fan isn't running, it may need replacing. the condenser needs air flow to cool down. if all is running and the condenser is not warm or the compressor is not hot, you have a regfrigeration leak. if the compressor is very hot, it may be seized up. if nothing is on, there is a board problem

The center of the fridge where the doors seal is very hot. Took of back cover, coolant lines are extremly hot compressor making buzzing sound.

Hello,

When you were at the back behind the compressor did ya notice that the fan thier by the compressor was running, what will make that center divider bar very hot (it's normal to be warm) is due to the fan by the compressor not running or the coil also near the compressor being clogged with dust. So check that fan and replace if not running and also be sure to clean that coil free of all the dust ( the coil should be cleaned every 6 months as normal maintiance)

7 year old refridgerator not getting cold enough. Thawing in freezer. Should the condenser be hot/warm to the touch? Is there a re-set?

Hello,

The condersor coil will be very warm to hot..not so much so it will burn you, yet very warm..the things that will make it very overly warm is if its clogged with dust or the condenser fan motor isnt running all the time the compressor is on. But it will normally be warm all the time the compressor is running..that heat is whats being removed from inside (the way refrigs. work is they remove the heat so when the heat is gone only cold is left)

Mine is a Kenmore Coldspot. model #52559100 Serial #SL4336967. The entire door frames are extremely hot. It is coldish overall, but nothing is freezing. Is the cooling fan usually what needs fixed?

Check condenser fan, located next to compressor - is it running? If not - replace! Also check condenser coils - are they covered with lots of lint, dust and etc? If so, clean.
If the above mentioned do not solve your problem - unplug fridge, call a service technician.

The rubber seals on the doors are hot. The frame that the seals rest against as well. What might be wrong? Is this dangerous.

The refrigerator temperature problem you are likely experiencing as well as the hot center strip and outer gasket edges is going to be due to one of three very likely issues. In order of simplicity and cost, the first thing to check is the condenser coil. The condenser can and often does get clogged with dust and pet hair, and needs to be fairly clear of any obstructions that will prevent it from dissipating heat as it is designed. If its full of dust and pet hair, unplug or turn off the unit, and clean with a vacuum and appliance vent brush. If its clear of dust, the next thing to check is the operation of the condenser fan motor. It is located near the compressor and its purpose is to blow cooling air onto the compressor and the condenser coil. This fan often fails, and is most likely your cause. Be sure to check this fan motor from the front, or before you move the cabinet. Sometimes moving it will get it going, but it will most assuredly stop again, so you are just delaying the inevitable. the last and most expensive thing is the compressor itself. If the condenser is clear of dust and pet hair and the condenser fan motor is running yet the compressor is still so hot that the part of the condenser that runs around the frame of the freezer, the yoder loop, is hot to the touch. If the first two are not your problem, you have a bad compressor most likely, and i would suggest having a reliable refrigerator repair service company inspect it before replacing, unless it is possibly still under warranty.

Refrigerator freezer not cooling or freezing took off back cover. fan operates. compressor is hot, when pluged in humming noise then drops out.

. Cut everything off for a few minutes then turn it back on and listen for a click from the compressor relay as the compressor tries to start.
Is the compressor motor running. If no check starter/overload relay.
Check to see if the condenser fan at the back underneath near the compressor is running. If no check fan.

Are the condenser coils near there warm or room temp. should be warm

Kenmore Coldspot side by side fridge/freezer no longer cold.

The black thing is the compressor. It should run warm but not hot. This usually indicates it's time to clean the condenser coils under the refrigerator. Try using a long soft brush and your vacuum cleaner.

Divider strip between fridge and freezer is hot

First take the grill off at the bottom under the doors look at the grate under the frig That is your condenser it will probably be covered in dust clean it off the see if you can fill air blowing under the frig there is a fan under there that keeps that coil cool and it runs around the door to keep condensation from build around the doors if no air is blowing take the back panel behind the Frig and there should be a fan running if the compressor is running this will also cause the compressor to over heat and will not cool as well but it might just need to be cleaned Good luck
