Question about Refrigerators

Refrigerator temp is too warm

We have a Traulsen model#GHT 2-32nut that the temp is sitting around 46 degrees. I have cleaned out the condensor coils and the setting is set to the coldest setting. I have no idea what year the refrigerator is. Do you know if this model can be fixed or can we add freon to it?

Yes it can be fixed and freon can be added. My Traulsens load up so bad on ice up top ,I let let them set overnight and de-ice totally before continuing diagnostic. Sometimes just getting all the ice off the evaporator core and thaw helps them immensly. If you are finding ice build up,increase defrost time a few minutes each cycle. These units hold the freon in the evaporator when iced causing poor freon flow and poor air flow .

What is your model number? With the model number I can look up the components that may be causing this problem. Example would be a defective thermister or thermostat control. Thanks Sea Breeze

Check to see if your hear your evaporator fan is running in your freezer, then check behind the refrigerator and see if your condensor fan is running. Make sure your condensor coils are clean under your fridge. Your symptoms are leaning towards dirty condensor coils. Good luck!

Most all commercial freezers have a fan delay/ defrost terminator. It is usually mounted on the end of the evap coil. It's purpose is to sense the temp of the coil during the defrost cycle. When it hits a preset temp., usually around 55 degrees or more (depends on Mfg.) It terminates the defrost cycle. It also doubles as a fan delay. It allows the evap coil to cool off from the defrost cycle before allowing the fan to come on. Usually, the coil has to get around 20 degrees before fan will energize. I would look for this as a possible problem. It could be one device with 3 wires or 2 separate devices with 2 wires each. I've seen it both ways.
Hope this helps.

GE model TFX22R ice maker problem

First clean out the condensor coils. If you have pets it should be done at least 3 times a year. The other possible problem is if the gasket in either the fridge or freezer is worn out or has a gap it will not cool properly. Check that the fan underneath the unit by the condensor coils is running when the compressor is . Some smaller refrigerators have only condensor coils on the back and no fan. These units should have room for air flow on top and sides not built in flush with cabinets. Buy a thermometer for both the fridge and freezer compartments. You run the risk of food poisoning if the fridge temp can not be kept below 40 degrees. Freezer temp should be able to keep at least 0 - 5 degrees. (Ice cream is a very good indication of proper temp. It is the first thing that melts. Ice maker is a close 2nd.)

If these things don't work call for repair. Don't risk losing all your food!
