Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

Looking for help with the Whirlpool GR2SHK-XKQ00, top mount refrigerator. Water is coming into the refrigerator from the freezer, possibly linked to self-defrost cycle, def. not ice maker. Drain pan is empty. Is there some kind of drain tube that might be broken or blocked? Where would it be located? Thanks!

Remove the lower freezer panel end then remove the rear panel . Remove the ice under bottom panel . Useing a hair dryer , heat the aluminum tray under the coils until you see the black drain hole . Continue defrosting the hole until free of ice . Could help useing a small screwdriver into hole . Even hot water into hole could help to clear . Once water will drain into hole , use a small hose inserted into hole and blow thru it to clear and obstruction in the line (line is inside the cabinet , unaccessable ) , Then find about a 14-16 gauge aluminum wire , aluminum fence post tie , aluminum ground wire , and insert it into the hole until resistence is felt . Wrap the top portion about 1 turn around the calrod (black) heating element and cut off the rest of the aluminum wire . The element will transfer heat to the wire during defrost , to keep the drain hole clear of ice .

I have a 15 cubic feet whirlpool top mount refrigerator model no. mrt15craw0 water is under the food trays also drips from the top freezer into the refrigerator from the vent, what could it be?

The problem is the drain is clogged. Remove the back panel in your freezer and at the bottom of the evaporator coil you will see a hole about ½” in diameter this is the drain tube. You might need to use some warm water to melt the ice and then run a wire being very careful not to puncture the hose and run it down the tube to free up the drain. This tube travel down to the bottom of your refrigerator to a pan sometimes located on top of the compressor or somewhere else down there. It collects the water there to evaporate. You can enter your model # at www.appliancehelponline.com for a diagram or illustration of your refrigerator. Not all models are available. This link will help removing the back panel http://appliancehelponline.com/refertopevapfan.html

Water condenses on the ceiling of my frigerator.. and collects in the bottom of the frig, the shelves and drawers.. it does not drain outside the frig and the back of the frigerator doesn't appear to come...

Yes, you may have two problems. The seals around the door are defective or the drain to the pan below the refrigerator is blocked or both. I will need you to read a few things that may help you and I am here to help you get this solved. Now because the water is inside the fresh food compartment I believe the drain is blocked in sid the back and rear of the refrigerator. Look at the first link below and see if this applies to you. Then read the second link and ask me questions if you need. Please rate me and Thank You, Sea Breeze

Water is leaking from under the freezer into the refrigerator section, Is there an easy fix for this.

This is a common problem found with that model. Link below shows you how to solve it. It appears with what you said is the water is coming from the freezer compartment. If so then it can come from 2 things. A frozen defrost/cogged drain or your ice maker is leaking. Let me know how to refine your problem closer. Thanks, Sea Breeze

Listened to other posts and figured drain plug was clogged. It was with ice. Removed bottom pan and back panel of freezer, removed ice on bottom, put hot water in drain to thaw ice until it flowed into pan underneath fridge. Thanks for the ideas.

Whirlpool Top-Mount Refrigerator Freezer warm, cracking noise

8yr old? Buy a new one. The cracking sound is from expansion and contraction of the cabinet and ice cooling or defrosting. It can be as simple as a bit of a top up of refrigerant, but can also be that your compressor has worn down the valve plates and therefore is not producing sufficient pressure throught the system.
