Question about GE Washing Machines

GE front loader keeps tearing clothes

2 years old and has been making large tears in clothing about 1-2 times per month for the last year. I noticed that it only tears polyester clothing. Any suggestions on how to prevent this problem?

had this once before
A wire from an under wire bra found its way in-between the inner and outer drum
every now and again it would find its way to the seal and tear it
then one day the drum started making a loud grinding sound
on further investigation we found the wire
that fixed both problems

issue him with a written notice of the tear ( also take a photo) so that he cannot blame you for the problem
It is not your fault but normal wear and tear for a machine that old
It sounds like he is trying it on so that you have to fix it
unfortunately it is his machine and repairs are his responsibility regardless of how rough or careful you are
if push comes to shove talk with a lawyer

He5t tearing clothes

Are you sure that the clothes are not getting caught on exposed zips.

Why not load some things like towels sheets (without zips/buttons etc) in the washer and see if the issue repeats itself. You should also be able to see if there are any sharp edges or loose sharp items in the drum (mind your fingers)

Dryer about 5-6 years old and does about 5-6 loads per week. last 2 months, with medium to heavy loads, has developed a loud squeak that coincides with drum rotation. light loads cause a lesser squeak, and...

drum rollers/glides, may be that the motor needs to be oiled, in which case you will need to unplug dryer and drill a hole in the casing not to deep just to where it goes through the casing, then moisten the cotton fabric. Hope this helps Tim:

I would suggest replacing the front drum bearing. Sounds like the gap is now excessive, obviously allowing clothes to get caught up in there. Drum must be removed from the dryer to do this.
Good luck, hope this helps.

Clothes smell bad in my GE front loader.  It's one of the first models they came out with - about 3 years old.  Thanks.

Run the unit through a cycle with HOT water and a small box of baking soda plus detergent--no clothes. There are a number of cleaning products on the market that do the same thing (but more expensive). Redo this whenever you notice the smell returning.

GE frontloader door gasket ripped

We had the same problem, I printed off the solution posted by john_in_erie. His repair directions were VERY acurate, however we find a few helpful additions to the repairs - 1st in step #6, the spring loaded wire, is in the front of the gasket under seal (we were looking on top of machine). Also in step #8, you need a short phillips screwdriver or a 7 mm socket with a 1/4" ratchet because of the position of the screw to get around the edge of the tub.
Thank you so much John, we could have not done it without your very accurate installation instructions.
