Unknown model of panasonic tv problem with picture

Hi i have been having a problem with the tv .... it has been flickering quite fast but only slightly, then all of a sudden after turning the tv off (trying to sort out the flickering) then back on again there was no picture until about ten seconds later. The picture was a dark red and sort of smudged with faint horizontal lines about an inch apart. Any solutions? My partner said it should be thrown away ....is she right?

ApprenticeDepending on age, it sounds as if picture tube has an intermintent short in the red gun. tap on the center of the screen to see if it goes away, if it does,I would strongly say that the tube is gone; but you could try openning it and check if the crt board is mounted on the tube's neck properly. do this at your own risk since you might get a shock if not familiar on how to handle tv's.
