Since your AMD Athlon XP 3200+ has a Frequency Rate of 2.2GHz, (2200MHz), and has a Front Side Bus of 400MHz, you can use Two - 1GB sticks of PC2700. (DDR at 333MHz)

(It's the Barton Core model. Has an L2 cache of 512KB, an 11X multiplier, uses 1.65 volts, and has an FSB of 400MHz. Part Number AXDA3200DKV4E)

OR, you can use One stick of PC3200. (DDR at 400MHz)

I know you know this, but I wanted to explain why.
It's because the SIS 748 chipset has memory limitations.

I advise using Two sticks of PC2700. (DDR at 333MHz) In this case, more ram amount is better, and the drop in frequency rate is minimal.

Put the ram in Slots 1 and 2. Slot 1, is the Slot closest to the processor.
Here is ASRock Support, and the page for the K7S8E,

http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?Model=K7S8XE
(Just copy and paste the above into your address bar, then press the Enter key)

If you want the Motherboard Manual, go up to the left side under -> Overview and Specifications. Click on Manual.
The manual is in PDF file form. Your computer has Windows on it, and Adobe Reader. Adobe Reader uses PDF files.

Give it time after you click on the server link you want. (ASIA, Europe, USA)
It may take up to 30 seconds, before you will see the first page. Wait until it has fully downloaded, before looking through it.

If you want to know how to save it to your computer, (You can also burn it off to CD disk), come back, and post your question in an additional comment.
Would appreciate it if you would rate my solution.

The ASRock K7S8X Motherboards takes the PC2100/2700/3200 DDR SDRAM DIMMs .

You can upgrade to a maximum of 1.0 GB (PC3200) / 2.0 GB (PC2700) / 3.0 GB (PC2100) Memory, the system has 3 sockets to install Memory, already with 0 MB (removable) standard Memory installed. For best Motherboards performance use the maximum amount of allowed Memory per slot for your Motherboards.

Doubt if you would notice much difference between 333 and 400 ddr.
here are the memory specs on the mb:
- DDR non-ECC, un-buffered memory
- DDR400, Max. capacity of system memory: 1GB (FSB 400/333 MHz)*
- DDR333, Max. capacity of system memory: 2GB (FSB 400/333/266/200 MHz)
- DDR266/200, Max. capacity of system memory: 3GB (FSB 333/266/200 MHz)

*According to SiS® official document, SiS® 748 chipset has limitation DDR supports:
CPU at FSB 200MHz mode, it will NOT support DDR400
CPU at FSB 333MHz mode, it will NOT support DDR200
CPU at FSB 400MHz mode, it will NOT support DDR200/DDR266

What is the max size of ddr400 memory you can fit into ddr1 & ddr2 dimm slots on a p4vm8 mother board

1) Total maximum amount for motherboard is 2GB.

2) There are 2 Ram Memory slots.

3) Maximum amount for EACH ram memory slot is 1GB.

Either DDR Sdram at 266MegaHertz, or 333MHz, or 400MHz.
PC2100, PC2700, and PC3200, respectively.

http://www.asrock.com/mb/VIA/P4VM8/

There is no DDR1 and DDR2 slots, in a manner of speaking.

May be marked on your motherboard that way, but stating it that way on a computer product support website = No.

You're going to make someone think, you don't know what you are talking about.

They may think you are referring to DDR Sdram, and DDR2 Sdram, and they know the motherboard only uses DDR Sdram ram memory.

Suggest state Slot 1 and Slot 2; or DIMM 1 and DIMM 2.

For additional questions please post in a Comment.

Is gigabyte-81915me-c motherboard support 1 gb ddr2 RAM? The Ram is 1 GB DDR2 800Mhz.

This is the RAM specs for this motherboard.

    Memory
    1. Type: Dual Channel DDR 400/333
    2. Max capacity: 2 GB
    3. DIMM slots: 2
    * Due to standard PC architecture, a certain amount of memory is reserved for system usage and therefore the actual memory size is less than the stated amount.

Hi. The amount of memory that can be installed is limited by the motherboard, not the CPU. That being said, the motherboard you have listed will take the following memory:

Each memory slot can hold DDR PC2700,DDR PC3200 with a maximum of 1GB per slot.

I have upgraded my k7s8xe with athlon xp 3200 cpu. I have adjusted the jumpers to fsb 200 & installed 1gb ddr 400 ram. system keeps rebooting os vista enterprise. any suggestions. also can i install 2...

First of all, if your FSB is set to 200mhz, the system will not support DDR400. "CPU at FSB 200MHz mode, it will NOT support DDR400". The FSB will have to be either 333 or 400mhz in order to utilize DDR400. Only 1GB of DDR400 is supported. As to your rebooting issue, could be because of these incompatibilities and/or you did not properly seat the heatsink/fan on the new CPU, which also means you might not have properly applied thermal compound or might have no applied it at all. All the compatibility information for this motherboard can be found at: http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?Model=K7S8XE
