Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

Ricoh Aficio CL7000 Printer Black Output is Blurred / Fuzzy. Recently my printer started printing with the black output is blurred. It appears to be fused to the paper okay but it's just not sharp. Both text and graphics. It is repeatable too, in that the same lines/graphics that are blurry are blurred in repeated attempts to print where other lines of text are clear. Color appears to be okay - sharp and crisp. Any help would be appreciated!

Hi. Thank you for your suggestion. I tried cleaning the roller (it wasn't all that dirty) and the print is the same. Some B&W text lines are blurry (unreadable) and others are sharp and clear. Any other ideas?

    Hi. Answers:

    1. Is it in any kind of a set pattern?
    >>CLM>> No, it apears to be somewhat random on the page. But if an entire line of print (sentence) is blurry, then the entire line is blurry. It does seem to be repeatable if I print the same page twice. That is, the same sentences will be blurry in subsequent print attempts. Note that when I print color pages, they come out clean and sharp. It's only B&W pages that do not print correctly. Lastly, some sentences are sharp on one side of the paper and blurry on the other side or in the middle of the sentence.

Or is it completely random when it happens?

    >>CLM>> See above. It may be the same areas of the paper on each sheet. It's a bit hard to tell since each sheet is a bit different.

Did the cleaning seem to improve it at all?

    >>CLM>> Maybe a little. Not much at best.

Have you tried printing from different sources?

    >>CLM>> Do you mean from different computers? Yes. Same thing. It does print the same way from doing a "copy" function on the printer/copier. Also, I tried printing from the three trays and the bypass tray. The same blurry thing.

A test page for example, something from word, and something from the internet, do they all have the problem?

    >>CLM>> I've tried all differrent methods of print, Word, Internet, copy machine function. They all print blurry.

Is the problem in different spots on each?

    >>CLM>> As described above, some spots on the paper are blurry, others are clear. A sentence across the page may be sharp on the left, blurry in the middle, and sharp on the right. Some Sentences are blurry all the way across.

Does it seem evenly spaced out like every 2 inches or so for example or is it completely erratic?

    >>CLM>> It seem's pretty erratic to me.

Thanks and let me know, we'll get this figured out

Any other ideas out there besides "its a hardware problem"? I tried calling Ricoh and they said it's the black photoconductor unit. I replace it a few months ago and the printer has not had that much use since I replaced it.

  • Charles McCarthy Jul 23, 2009

Er, this is a laser printer that doesn't have a "print-head" or am I missing something?

  • Charles McCarthy Jul 29, 2009

It turns out that changing the black photoconductor unit fixed the problem. Changing out the transfer belt cleaner fixed my earlier problem of black lines appearing on the backside of paper.

However, in changing out these units I inadvertently damaged (tore) the transfer belt. Does anyone know if this transfer belt is (relatively) easily replaced by itself and could give me instruction on how to do it?

  • Charles McCarthy Jul 29, 2009

Er, this is a laserjet and does not have ink heads. Look at my comments and you'll see that I found the problem was the black photoconductor unit. However, I tore the transfer belt in "fixing" the printer. I want to know if this transfer belt can be replaced by itself or if I need to replace more than the transfer belt. Also, if the transfer belt can be replaced, please outline the steps on how to do this.

    Thanks,
    Charles

Actually, I found the problem was the black photoconductor
unit. However, I tore the transfer belt in "fixing" the printer. What I need to know now is if this transfer belt can be replaced by itself or if I need to
replace more than the transfer belt. Also, if the transfer belt can be
replaced, please outline the steps on how to do this.

    Regards,
    Charles

Try to remove your black toner from the toner bin. gently shake the toner gentle enough not to throw the black particles. This is an indication of a toner cartridge that is used up already that is why the printer can't hit the black printout perfectly. If your black toner is quite new, then shaking it gently can help properly distribute the toner particles inside.

your torn out transfer belt can still be used if the conductors are still in place. It is better to fix that transfer belt on your own than buying a new one since getting a new transfer belt is not easy.

try fixing the belt by making sure that the copper conductors are still in place just in case they are torn vertically, that is, torn along the wire threads. However, if it is torn horizontally, you can restore it by removing the connecting jumper or jack and clipping or crimping it on the non torn out part. just make sure that the length can still reach the socket in the circuit board.

When you mean the same words are blurry, it may be because they are printing off of the printhead in the same area of the paper, and so this may just be a bad spot on the printhead because it is clogged and so the head needs to be replaced which is easily done. Just order a new printhead and cartridge for the black and you should be set. Let me know how this turns out.

Woops sorry, I was thinking that this was an inkjet, then I would think it's the black photoconductor unit like the manufacture said even though you just replaced it. Sometimes a part like this breaks early because it is defective. If the part has a warranty on it, I would try replacing it again and see if that solves your problem.

Hello there, this is a fairly common problem with this printer, luckily the fix should be pretty quick and easy. The main thing you need to do is to clean the registration roller. I could try to walk you through it by text here but let me give you a copy of the maintenance manual so that you can see the pictures and have the step by step instructions.

Download it from here:

http://micromatikal.dlinkddns.com:8000/cust/CL7000.pdf

The part you want starts on page 29. If that does not take care of the problem skip forward a few pages and there are a few more steps to try. I bet the maintenance will take care of it.

If it does not, please come back to the site here and let me know and I can give you more information.

Thanks

Tim

Ok it is definitely a hardware issue inside the printer. It sounds like something is going to need to be replaced that controls the black ink fuser portion, but I don't know exactly what. I would call Ricoh at:

    1-800-742-6438

They can troubleshoot with you further, tell them you have already been through all the maintenance routines on the printer and see if they have further suggestions. Chances are that you will need to schedule some service on the printer, I am so sorry about this =(.

I have a ricoh aficio cl7000 and there is a error code black pcu type f - is that the black toner?

No, the PCU is separate from the toner. It is basically the drum imaging unit, and it can easily be replaced if you have a new one. When you open the printer's front door there are a row of black units running diagonally down the front of the copier -- the black PCU is the upper left most one.

You can buy a new black PCU from your local dealer, or else you can find one online from many different sites. Make sure you get the black one -- the color PCUs are separate.

On the Ricoh cl 7200 there is an error code sc386. What is it?

sc386 = an error with the black developer. This could be caused by something in the DV unit itself, or the black toner. If you've just replaced either one of these recently, try reinstalling them and resetting the machine. Otherwise, the black development unit probably needs to be replaced.

Ricoh CL7000 text is blurry/fuzzy

probably only when printing in colour? Black only, is ok right?
It needs to have it's line adjustment procedure done. This is a series of complicated trial and error adjustments performed in service mode that the individual colours are adjusted based on printouts generated by the printer. Can only be adjusted by a service tech with experience with this adjustment.

You NEED to REPLACE the black development unit with a BRAND NEW item......these things are chipped so it won't accept previously installed units. If the problem still exists try a new PCU (toner cartridge).
