It sounds like the eject mechanism is jamming. Now when you have the faceplate off and you hit the eject button does the problem persist? I know you said you tried taking it off and it will eject manually, but what about using the button with it off? If it still has problems there try unplugging the power for a good couple minutes and replugging it. Try the eject again. If it still has the problem the tray mechanism is failing and you will want to either get the drive replaced or the entire xbox. Either way you will probably need someone to do it for you. It may still be under warranty, check with microsoft at :

Hello there, actually you don't need the faceplate on to turn on and off the console. In the middle of the ring of lights at the bottom is a small middle area with a very small metallic (some models its plastic) button. This is the power button. If you can't find it just line the faceplate of the 360 up with the front of the system and look at where the power button lines up and you will see there is just a plastic "stick" that probes the power button I'm talking about. You can do it with a fingernail easily, or the cap of a pen something like that.

Also, your best bet is to just live with it if you think it's out of warranty. Not sure what country you are in but Microsoft has repair centers all over the world. If it is under warranty this is definitely covered. If not the repair is pretty expensive. The drives alone are about $100 USD.

    Hope this helps!

    Tim

Try this:
Their is a small hole under the cd drive opening area... Take a paper clip and put it in the hole...don't push yet ...press eject button....now push in and check if it comes out?

You may also need to try:

1. Unplug the power cord from your Xbox console.
2. Position your Xbox 360 console horizontally, as you would position a VCR or a stereo component.
3. Remove the faceplate from your Xbox console by:
To attach or remove the faceplate on your Xbox 360 console, follow these steps:

  1. Close the disc tray, remove memory units, and then turn off your Xbox 360 console.
  2. Locate the detachment slot on the right side of the faceplate. This slot is located on the bottom side of the faceplate if your console is positioned vertically.
  3. Pull the slot to detach the faceplate. Hold your Xbox 360 console firmly to keep your console from falling as you remove the faceplate.
  4. To attach a faceplate, align the tabs on the faceplate with the slots on your console, and then press the new faceplate into place.
4. Depending on the type of disc drive that you have in your Xbox 360 console, you can use one of the following methods. Note In each case, make sure that you line up the paper clip or stiff wire to pass through another notch behind the hole on the console casing.
I HAVE AN X BOX - 906935.jpg
  • Method A: Insert a straightened paper clip or another small, stiff wire into the first hole from the left side of the disc tray. To release the disc tray, push the paper clip into the hole to press the manual eject mechanism. The manual eject mechanism is a white lever that is visible behind the console casing. The hole is located about 1.5 inches (approximately 4 centimeters) from the left edge of the disc tray.
  • Method B: Insert a straightened paper clip or another small, stiff wire into the second hole from the left side of the disc tray. Push the paper clip repeatedly into the hole to turn a gear to release the disc tray. The hole is located about 1.5 inches (approximately 4 centimeters) from the left edge of the disc tray.
  • Method C: Insert a straightened paper clip or another small, stiff wire into the hole that is directly under the "X3" in the Xbox 360 label on the disc tray to release the disc tray. The hole is located about 1 inch from the right edge of the disc tray.
5. After you release the disc tray, the tray will pop out slightly. You can pull the tray out the rest of the way to remove the disc. Note If you use method A or Method C in step 4, you may have to firmly press the disc eject mechanism to eject the disc tray.

I had my xbox 360 standing up and i droped it,now my game halo reach wont work and has a line like around the disk

This is a common problem with the Xbox 360. If someone moves their console even a little bit with a disc in, it can get severely scratched.
I'm sorry but there's nothing you can do to the disk to get it to work again. You're just going to have to buy a new one.

My 360 does not read disc, everytime i place disc in ,it says open tray

I fixed this for me today. I opened the tray, and took the disk out. Just inside in the middle there is a small disk that rotates. I just rotated it a little with my finger to get it moving. Once it started spinning the disk tray closed on its own. I then put a disk in and it started reading it. I guess the piece that moves the disk got stiff and just needed some assistance. Hope this helps.

take off the faceplate and you will see a manual eject hole on the front of the dvd drive, use a straightened paperclip in the hole to help it eject when you press the usual eject button

XBOX 360 "Open Tray " message

Your CD/DVD drive has failed mechanically. Usually this is a physical problem where the disc is simply no longer in alignment with the laser. It does not necessarily mean something will make noise, and can be just one small part slightly bent or broken so the disk now moves freely top to bottom.

If you can do a warranty repair, you're set. But if you are no longer under warranty, you only have two options. you can try and replace the drive, which although odd shaped; I think is just a standard IDE drive, or you can shift the XBOX 90 degrees to Re-orient the box. In some cases this may let gravity hold in place what the internal mechanisms no longer are.

Re: Blinking green light/won't detect disk drive

If you still have a warrenty sticker call up Microsoft and tell them that your Xbox 360 has overheated, and tell them your serial code. They will tell you if your warrenty is expired, if it's not they will ask you where you live then pick up your Xbox 360 and fix it for free. If your warrenty has expired try this. Power off the Xbox 360 and when it is off press the eject button, it might open they tray. Or try opening your Xbox 360 and remove the disk drives cables from the disk drive and the motherboard and put it back together, you should never try the towel trick really, although it works it can also give your Xbox 360 3 red lights then you have to buy X-clamps and theormo paste, just do the X-clamps and theormo paste when you get one red light. I have had two Xbox 360's, when I did the towel trick it burnt the GPU, the other one a little componante came loose, sorry for my spelling. Hope this helps =D

My 360 won't play any disks

Spinner motor is probably bad. open case take top off of DVD drive just lay a disk in the tray it should spin up if it doesn't the motor is bad when you open and close the tray(small hole on the left front of metal box use a pen tip) observe the laser it should move back and forth just a bit and bob up and down and light up if no then you have other problems with the motoer that moves the laser or the laser itself.
