With cleaner plugged in and turned on, push the little reset button on the side of the lower base of vac. Remember that the brush will not turn in the upright position. release your handle and you should be in business. hope this helps. please let us know. thanks renevacdoc

Why did the brush roller stop spinning?

With the cleaner unplugged, turn the unit over and look inside the opening where the brush is located. Do you see the clogging of the brush with lots of hair? If so, you will need to disassemble it to remove the hair. In any case, you will probably need to take off the cover to see if there is an obstruction jamming the brush. Also, check to make sure that motor for the brush is getting power. If there is an electrical cable on the outside connecting the brush housing to the rest of the vacuum cleaner, check if it is disconnected. When you have the cleaner on, do the lights glow? Do you hear the motor running? Try the above and report back.

The unit works well for 3~4 minutes and then stops. Wait another 10 minutes to cool down and it works again but the same issue happens again and again. It is a brand new unit. I read the manual for the...

Hi, I have a Hoover Bagless myself. I also have worked professionally fixing Vacuum Cleaners. There may be some material caught between the roller end and the end bearing or the edge of the roller compartment. This could be causing excessive friction causing the motor to overheat. Like a piece of carpet fabric that wrapped around the end. However, that is not supposed to happen to a vacuum cleaner. If you turn the vacuum cleaner over, exposing the brush, you may find it. And be able to remove.
HOWEVER: This is supposed to be a premium Vacuum. It has a very high rating. It certainly is still covered under warranty. I would take my receipt, be safe, and exchange it.
I hope this helps,

Cord got into brush area. pulled cord and now rollers will not turn. Beltless drive Vacuum kenmore 3 years old 11635922500

Greetings,

Your Kenmore Beltless Drive upright model 116.35922500 has an overload protection system designed on it. This will prevent anything from damaging the brush motor, or your roller brush if you were to vacuum up something in it (i.e. your cord).

The reset switch can be found in this below diagram as item # 3. This would be the first thing I would try. Simply just push down on the red switch actuator while the vacuum is on, then recline the handle down. Did this fix it?

If this doesn't fix it, please let me know by requesting a clarification request, or by adding a comment to the repair here on Fixya. I think from how you explained it that this should fix your vacuum cleaner. I hope this helped you. If this was helpful, please be sure to rate the repair solution as helpful by clicking the thumbs up icons in the top right hand corner of the repair. Thank you very much,

My purple proggesive kenmore upright motor works but beater not beating help thank you

I just had the same problem - reset button didn't trip - cleaned the roller - ultimately found there is an override switch at the point where the hose attaches to the base of the vacuum - it disables the roller when you use the attachments. The hose had become loose (but not disconnected) enough to trip the switch. An easy fix after alot of tinkering... p.s. All those "experts" that said to change a belt obviously don't understand that this model is beltless...

I have a model 116.35922 beltless drive vacuum. The agitator brush will not turn with the vacuum running and the handle down. The brush turns by hand and the reset button has not popped. Ther is nothing...

I just had the same problem. The roller will not turn if the unit is overheated. I discovered that my bag was too full. I changed the bag then the roller started turning again. I don't know if this is true cause and effect, but it couldn't hurt to try.

Roller turns but makes noise

When you set the roller back in place, you probably didn't get it set in the slots properly. May be raised up slightly on one side.

I have a Kenmore upright beltless that suddenly, the brush stopped spinning. Do you have an answer for this?

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. On the Kenmore upright the belt is broken and needs replacing and you can take it to Sears / Kenmore or a local vac dealer and they can change it for you or you can attempt to do it yourself, usually it just takes a screwdriver and either a flat or a geared belt for less than $10.00 to $15.00 is an estimate.

Brush stops

This really sounds like a belt problem. Even if it looks OK, it may have stretched. New belts are cheap, and you'll need a new one eventually - if the old one turns out to be fine, you can always keep it as a spare. A second possibility is this: Many cleaners have a control which allows you to switch off the brush/beater bar so you can clean wooden floors without damaging them (for instance, mine has a pedal-operated bar which shunts the belt between two adjacent pulleys on the brush roller, one of which is properly keyed on, and the other of which is a loose fit allowing the roller to idle. If you have something like this on your cleaner, check you have the brushes switched on, and that the mechanism is working properly. A.
