MAxtor One Touch External Hardwrive: I have a one touch. The light comes on and the drive tries to engage. You can hear it (spinning quick and then soft) then it just stops. Is this a power issue?

This issue could be related to a connection inside the enclosure or the enclosure is faulty. Does it do the same thing when it is plugged into a different usb port or computer? It could also be a software issue where the computer is trying to assign the drive a drive letter (D, E, ect.) and the letter is already used (so the drive is not showing up on the computer). If you suspect it's faulty and it is possibly under warranty i would check the status of the warranty for replacement. If it is not under warranty (or you have data on there that you need and dont care about warr.) the best solution would be to take the drive out of the enclosure and plug it into the computer mobo directly; w/the computer off of course. If you aren't familiar with computer hardware i wouldn't recommend you do it yourself since any static charge or bump (drop) of the hard drive could cause loss of data. a local computer repair place could take it out and copy all of the data off the drive or get you a new enclosure (if the drive is ok, which they could also test for)

Do you hear the drive spinning up correctly? It should be a smooth sound with possibly a few ticks at first and then a steady humming sound. If you do not? No sound? Check the power supply: connected - check voltage with voltmeter if in doubt. Strange sounds or noisy sounds and then silence? The hard drive has failed. New drive? Check the Disk Management console in Windows and verify that the drive is partitioned and formatted instead of just empty unallocated space (the whole bar will be grey instead of navy in Disk Management). To access right-click "(My) Computer" > Manage. Select Disk Management from the left pane. If problem persists, check the "Device Manager" from the same window for devices with Yellow Exclamation marks. Try reconnected or reseating the cables.

My Mac OS X doesn't recognize my Maxtor One Touch

Try unplugging both the power and data cables from both the computer and the hard drive. Let the hard drive spin down. Plug the cables back in. It should become visible with no loss of files.

External Hardisk Maxtor 4 One Touch not detected

Have you tried different USB cables with the drive? If the drive is self powered (no ext power supply) which I think that one is, then it needs a really good cable to draw the 5 volts from the USB port. If you have tried a known working cable, then it could be the USB controller or the disk itself. You can buy the USB box on eBay really cheap and move the drive over.

Maxtor One-Touch 4 750gb power light flashes and goes out straight away.

Try to remove the drive and connect it directly to another computer.
If still doesn't spin up then most likely the board has failed.

Maxtor one Touch 300GB no steady green light

Hi,

The USB Isn,t supplying/providing enough Power to the device.
Search e-bay or similar for a 2 into 1 USB Cable.
Then power the unit with 2 USB Ports on the Computer.
2 x USB Into 2 x Sockets On P.C. 1 x Into Device Drive.
This will be enough power to operate the Device Correctly.

I,ve done this on several external Drives, never failed for Me.
