Question about Video Game Consoles & Games

4 Answers

Copying videos from ext HDD via USB to my PS3, 2 or 3 worked fine then one stopped at 99%, cancelling didn't help, had to switch PS3 off. Tried it again, same thing, tried a different one, same again. There's loads of space on the drive. Sys vers 2.80. Anybody seen this?

I tried one file twice, another once. All three times, the copy stopped at 99% and the PS3 required restarting.

Since posting the question I tried another (third) file, which copied with no probs, so I then went back and tried the second one again, which stopped at 99% again, so I have at least two files that both keep stopping at 99%, and some others from the same original source, on the same device and in the same folder, that copy OK.

  • robin913 Jul 23, 2009

There's no obvious difference between the problem files and the others, either in size or format. One thing I have just noticed, though, is that the successful copies have been put in folders named for the date and time of the copy, but the failed ones are all in one folder named Unknown.

Seeing them there gave me the idea of trying to play one, and I did, and it played fine! So the copy operation is actually successful, but the PS3 stops while displaying 99% copied, and these files get put into the Unknown folder.

  • robin913 Jul 23, 2009

I don't know how to control which file goes into which folder on the PS3. In fact, that's what I like least about it, I'd love to be able to organise files and folders properly, like on a PC.

  • robin913 Jul 23, 2009

As I already said, all the files are in the same folder on the HDD. I really don't think changing that is going to help.

  • robin913 Jul 23, 2009

The thread linked shows it was an issue two years ago, which I didn't know, but sorry, I don't consider that an answer to the question.

  • robin913 Jul 23, 2009

I think all the relevant information is covered in previous posts.

  • robin913 Jul 24, 2009

To get to 99% took roughly 10 seconds, with one of the relevant files, and I then waited over 4 minutes before giving up and switching off.

I don't know what drivers you're talking about, the only PS3 updates I know about are the system updates, and as I said I'm on 2.80.

Hi,

It may a problem with bad sector in the EHD. Use the Defragement and disk clean up options. For accessing this Start>Program Files>Accessories> System Tools.

Please try using this and treble shoot.

Thanks

The last percentage can take some time. More than the rest. How long did you wait> Do you have all your drivers updated?

Is it stopping at the same point with the same video each time? Or is it a different file each time you are trying this?

I can help you out here, very interesting problem you have.

Thanks

Are the ones that are stopping noticeably larger then the ones that work? Are they the same format of video?

I think I may know but confirm these things for me and I'll get right back to you.

If you place the files that stop at 99% into the folder which is named with the date and time, are they successful then?

I see. Do you have access to a PC you can connect the HDD to? If so, you can try reorganizing the files on the system, then attempt it again on the PS3.

    Hi there

It does seem to be an issue with the latest firmware. Although the firmware does fix other issues, the error with some videos stopping at 99% is still an issue. Some confirmations in the 3rd and 4th post here.

When playing a movie from my seagate ext. 3 tb always stop working when I play from hard drive work well Somebody like to help me.THANKS

Your hard drive is going to be much better at getting data to your processor/video card than a usb interface. You have to understand as well that the usb transfer rate will only be as fast as the slowest device connected via usb. If you have an older usb device connected the data rate will be incredibly slow.
More memory might help.

I have a Toshiba Desktop Ext Hard Drive PH3100U-1EXB ... i unplugged it from my desktop to plug into my laptop like i have done before but this time it wouldnt load so i tried to eject it but it wouldnt...

but does it still work on the desk top.
if yes, then you have lap top issues, ONLY.
easy ,huh?

try all lap top USB ports no ext. hubs allowed.
what is wrong in the LAP top OS, unstated)

are you using the correct external power adaptor for both Desk and lap top usage,
have you tried a diff. usb cable.
Laptops can not power the hdd via the USB at all, and in fact
should be avoided at all times. no matter.
the laptop can be infected.
the laptop might have USB issues, with drivers.
do a USB driver update. (no 0S stated)
does the HDD show up in Disk manager, as DISK2
can you set the drive letter?
can you set the volume label on this disk via DM?
if yes, you then can read and write the drive.
as stated on all pages for USB
disconnect all other USB devices, and now try this HDD.
do a full virus scan, and malware scan
do wInDoZ update.
I think i hit them all.

Hi. My computer says I ejected my WD My Passport external drive but it was not properly ejected. How can I fix this. I need all my thesis files but computer can read the external drive! Help please!

Try to test your WD Ext HDD to a different computer and check if you will get the same problem.

If the same problem persist try to use a different cable for your WD Ext HDD.

If still fails kindly ask the store where you bought the WD Ext HDD on how to retrieve your files and have WD EXT HDD replaced?

If your WD Ext HDD works to a different computer then update the BIOS and Chipset of the computer where your WD Ext HDD connected previously.

Hope this helps.

Two devices stopped working after plugging them into a powered usb hub: a laser usb mouse and a wireless network adaptor. Both were working fine when plugged into a regular usb hub. Got the powered hub...

the two device wont have any issue. but i would suggest to connect the ext. hdd directly to the sys. and it requires more power, and hub does not provide that much power which is required for ext hdd. you can try to connect only the ext. hdd to hub and check.

I have same problem sound but no picture, have tried it on 2 different tv's but no luck, have tried 2 different hdmi leads (both Bush 26602bu) but no luck. I even thought it was the port on my tv but it works fine with another dvd player and the same lead. I even returned the dvd player and exchanged it, still the same... It's driving me nuts...

1tb simpledrive will beep, click, but not work. No joy.

power source jack/plug might be the problem if it has been bumped about or if it was powered up and running before plugging in to the comp.....
i had the problem of my 1tb ext/hdd no longer being recognized because when i plugged it into my comp, the jack was live and not switched of at the wall. the only way i got it to work was to pull it out of the casing and switched it with the 320 ext/hdd i have as they are they same brand..just diff sizes. going to put the 320 into comp to become master drive as the internal is a measly 40g. i think i had burned out the connector pins on the power jack when it was plugged in live. i hope this is an idea for you to try.

My external Samsung HM120JC 120 GB Hard Drive not responding

Not sure what could be the problem.
There are many issues here.

- Did this drive worked before?
- If it did, was this your boot drive?
- USB cable and connector problems
- How is this connected to the drive?
- Is it in a package that came with the drive complete, or you had to install it?

My two cents... Samsung and other Japanese drives are not that reliable and if it's new, return it and get a Seagate drive. They have five year warranty and much better drives.
