Question about Dell Latitude D600 Notebook
I have had a latitude D600 for about 4 years now. It has a Broadcom 570x integrated ethernet controller and is running Windows XP Pro SP2. The problem that I have had in the past 6 months is that the wired ethernet does not work effectively. It does not recognize that the connection is good when plugged in. Occasionally the Local Area Connection will disappear altogether from the Network Connections folder. I have tried:
1. Ensuring that the power is plugged in and the power down of the ethernet port is disabled when connecting to the ethernet.
2. Uninstalling then reinstalling the drivers for the ethernet controller. This initially worked but the same problem would arise.
The wireless works fine and I have been able to operate with just this.
I am unsure as to whether this is a hardware or a software problem.
I'd appreciate some assistance with this.
Hi! In addition, two of my colleagues have same problem with dell latitude. They try to use it in some hotels with wired connection first boot the local area connection in the network connection doesn't appear when they try to shutdown the laptop after few minutes turned it on finally the local area connection came up. The things is every time that they use it in different location still the problem exist. Windows XP SP2, updated all the patches and drivers from the Dell website. How can it be fix? Thanks.

Ok i have herd of service pack 2 causing these problems, go to dell website , see if there are any service pack 2 fixes to download for your model laptop , or any updated drivers for your laptop , it does almost sound like a Harware problem , but i dont think thats the case , reinstaling xp may be the solution , start from scratch , and take note of what you install , as it maybe be some other software / programs causing this, it's also possible it is spyware or a virus causing this , spware doctor is a good program to use , you can download it for free and do a check , but u will need to buy it to clean the infections, unless u know how to pirate it, which i dont think im allowed to say ,
