Re: pass word to secure the wireless

  1. Then u have to setup ur router first
  2. Turn off the power on your computer.
  3. Securely connect an end of an Ethernet cable to your computer, as shown.
  4. Securely connect the other end to any of the router's four LAN ports.
  5. Connect a second Ethernet cable from the router's single WAN port to the modem.
  6. Make sure the modem is connected to the jack or cable to the Internet that was set up by your ISP.
  7. Start your network in this order:
    1. Turn the modem power off.
    2. Turn the router power off.
    3. Turn the modem power back on. Wait two minutes until the lights are stable.
    4. Turn the router power back on. Wait one minute until the lights are stable.
    5. Turn the computer power back on.
  8. Open an Internet browser, and type If a "Configuration Assistant" appears immediately, then do not follow the rest of these instructions. Follow the Configuration Assistant instructions, instead. Once you are finished, test your Internet connection by browing online,
  9. Type admin for User Name, and password for Password. (Older routers use 1234 as the password.)
  10. Click OK. This logs you into the router.
  11. Click Setup Wizard, on the left of the router settings page and set up your router , click wireless tab and setup wireless security for your connection
  12. that would fix your problem..

I dont know what my network key is.

open new Internet Explorer and type in address Bar "" and hit enter.
Leave user name field blank and type "admin" for the password. If you changed the router password, then log in using your password to login to the router.
Once you are in the router setup page, click on the Wireless Tab at the very top of the page. Once you are in the Wireless Tab, just right under the word Wireless you click the sub tab that Wireless Security. On this page you will see the Security Mode. If your security mode is set to WEP you will have four sets of keys available. To known which key to use look for the Default Transmit (Tx) Key, If your default transmit key is set to 1, then you will use the key in Network key 1 to connect to the wireless network. Now if your Security mode is set to WPA (Personal/Pres-Shared Key/PSK) what's inside the WPA-shared key or Pass phrase / Personal Key box is the network key for your wireless network.

Cant find PIN

if you dont know the pin you can put the CD in that came with your router.
if you lost it or dont have the CD then you can just setup the router manually by using your browset to
login. the default login/pass is blank/admin
then go to wireless and choose manual.
this will let you set the SSID or name of your wireless network.
then you go to wireless security and choose WPA-personal
type in a passphase for your wireless password.
you will need to configure all your wireless devices to the new SSID wireless network you created and use the passphase you created to join the secured network.

How do I set up a pass word from my router?

Hi Wendy559,

If you want to setup a password on your router you need to access the Wireless Settings Page. To access the router page you need a working computer that is connected to the router. To access the router page just open a browser then type, the Default username is blank and the password is admin. Go to the Wireless Tab select Wireless Security on the Dropdown next to Security Mode select either WEP or WPA. Then Personalize your Network Key. The Network Key serves as a password on your network to make it secure. Then Save the settings

If this works dont forget to say thanks. Thanks for using Fixya.

What if i want to secure it. do i need the cd?

Im not sure what you are saying is your problem.

To secure your wireless network you first need to log into your routers configuration settings to do that in your address bar of your browser type enable either WEP or WPA security and tell it what security key or pass phrase to use.

Then on your computer when you try to connect to your wireless routers signal it will ask you to put in the security key or pass phrase you selected and thats that. You are secure.
