Question about Efficient Networks SpeedStream 5200 Modem

Open Question

Speedstream 5200 Ethernet/USB ADSL Modem SETUP button missing

I have a speedstream 5200 Ethernet/USB ADSL Modem, Part# 060-E242-A13, Mac 000B23670B13, Firmware Part # 004-E242-A0W, Configuration Part # 003-6100-G09. Recently, when I go to lower my Firewall Level to Low so I can upload files to my website, the SETUP button is missing and I have to reboot the 5200 in order for it to appear. The modem/firewall appears to be operating correctly otherwise. I have tested the firewall to see if any ports are open and all ports are in stealth mode. ICMP is disabled so my computers cannot be pinged. Everything seems ok except the SETUP button is missing until I reboot. Any idea what is causing this and what I might be able to do to fix it? Is there a new firmware upgrade available that I need to install? I’ve had this 5200 since about 2004, but can’t remember for sure exactly when I got it, other than it was probably 2004 or later. Thank you in advance for any assistance you might be able to give.

SOURCE: Speedstream 4200 setup

I have just set up 4200 with dsl - you may find that you need to reset modem before you can configure. I was told that you need either a grey or yellow cable from your laptop to the modem. I use 10.0.0.138 to access modem. The 4200 I have was from a bigpond a/c - originally configured accordingly.

I have a Speedstreams 5200 E242 modem. Installation stuck after modem connection. Is the 4.2.2.122 driver Windows 7 compatible? Where can I download the good driver for Win 7?

Hello,
If your router is connected via the Ethernet port no drivers are necessary.

If you don't have a good reason to use the USB port, please use the Ethernet since it's much faster.

Please let me know.

No activity on my new speedstream 4200

Ethernet and DSL lights are indicating you have ADSL available on your line, and that you have computers connected to the router.

What has probably happened is that Optus did not set up the new router with your username and password. Go to thw following website for details on how to setup the modem.

Manual Modem Settings The Optus DSL Broadband self-installation CD configures all the necessary settings for your DSL Broadband service. You do not need to manually configure your modem if you have run the self-installation CD. While the following information is provided for your reference, using the self-installation CD is the recommended method for configuring your modem.
The Siemens SpeedStream 4200 ADSL modem can use either USB or Ethernet to connect to your computer.
  • If you are connecting via USB you will need to run the self-installation CD to install the USB driver before you connect your modem. The Siemens SpeedStream 4200 ADSL modem supplied by Optus has been customised for the Optus DSL Broadband service. Only the USB driver supplied on the self-installation CD will work with the Optus service. If you do not have the self-installation CD, you can download the latest drivers from the Siemens website.
  • If you are connecting via Ethernet it is possible to manually configure your modem without the self-installation CD. Only a web browser is required.
After connecting your modem there are two key steps to manually configure your modem for the Optus DSL Broadband service:
  • PC settings - Configure your computer's Ethernet network interface.
  • Configure Your Modem - Set the password in your modem's configuration pages.

  • Note: You will find your Optus DSL Broadband username and password on the letter you received with your self-installation kit.

  • Click the Apply button.
Step 5 of 5 ss4200_reboot_1.gif
  • Click the Reboot button to restart the modem using your saved settings.
ss4200_reboot_2.gif

Open the following link --

speedstream 5200

Download the manual from the link and review page 7 for ethernet connection.

Notice particularly the back of the device. There are four connection points to plug things in the one on the left with DSL is where cable with the phone connectors connects the phone jack to the speedstream 5200. On the right the round connector with the pin is where the power goes. Next to the power connector to the left is a USB connector. In between usb connector and the DSL port is an ethernet connector. One way to avoid the need for the USB software os to use the ethernet connector bu connecting an ethenet cable (wider connector that fits snugly in both ports one on the Speadstream 5200 and the other probably present on your computer.

USB driver including VISTA (if you prefer)
