Question about HP Officejet J5780 All-In-One InkJet Printer

1 Answer

HP Officejet will not scan

I have Windows 2000 PRO on my machine. I bought an HP Officejet j5780 and installed the program. The scanner will not work. I have contacted HP and they told me that the machine is not compatible with Windows 2000; their web site says that it is. Mostly what I need is scanning documents into either Winword or Open Office.
I have tried re-installing the software severally times to no avail.
I need to know how to get the printer to scan.

    Hi, Ekse

I downloaded the new file from HP, uninstalled the old program and then installed the new one but I'm lost as to what I should do now. I found several icons in the HP folder but none of them seemed to do anything.

    Guess I need more help.

    Hi, Ekse

I cannot find any way to reject the solutioin given and can't find how to get the direct connect on my desktop for the team solution.

  • John Brown Jul 22, 2009

I have been trying to contact you all afternoon via the TeamViewer. Internet Explorer will not let me download the file. When I use Firefox or Maxthon I don't get anywhere. When I get to the window to access you, there is no way to enter the ID and Password that I was given. When I use either my ID gnuma or gnuma@roadrunner.com and the radio button (remote) I don't get anything or any of the other buttons. I've tried everything I can see that I should do to get our remote connection. At one time I got a window or receding windows but that is as close as I've gotten to anything that resembles a program opening.

I don't know what to do now. But I do need to get the problem resolved.

Hi

I think it should work, have you installed the "HP Officejet Full Feature Software and Driver" from the hp website? the CD might have software for XP and newer and might not work fully on windows 2000.

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=181&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=3301296

Get the full feature software from the page above. Uninstall the earlier ones from start -> control panel -> add or remove programs

Find the hp related programs from the list and uninstall before installing the new software. also Unplug the machine and open up printers and faxes, right click on it and select delete.

Then restart your computer, and then install the full feature software, plug in the machine when asked.

If it doesn't work, I could look into it over remote support. I used to Scan on windows 98 some 10 years ago so I'm pretty sure its going to work on windows 2000.

    Hi

It should be pretty simple, I posted step by step instructions there if you need help. Download the program to your computer, save it to your desktop for example, then open your desktop and double click the teamviewer to start it.

The program should give you a set of numbers, a ID number that is like 123456 and a password number 1234 You only need to run the program so you get those numbers and then send them to me here or email them to me directly nikoht@gmail.com

  • Ekse Jul 22, 2009

The id and password, you don't enter those into the pages, you just send them to me over email or write here with a comment.

  • Ekse Jul 22, 2009

    1. download the file, click either run or save. if you save the file save it preferably on to your desktop.
    2. run the file basically double click on the file, if you clicked on run, it should have started on its own. If you clicked save, go to where you saved the file, double click it with your mouse to start it
    3. the program shows you a set of numbers, email me the numbers at nikoht@gmail.com

I sent you a email at gnuma@roadrunner.com did you get it?

HP OFFICEJET J5780 HOW TO GET SCANNER TO WORK

To get the scanner working this is what you should do. First, do not install the software for Officejet All-in-one J5780. Instead of this, install HP Officejet All-in-one J5700, you can get it from the HP website. I do not know why but this software makes the scanner work. You can then install J5780 which will delete some of the old files but will keep the scan file on.

Scanner won't work

Hi,
The all in one solution software you used in XP doesn't work fully with Vista.

But you can still scan and copy by using Windows Photo Gallery.

1. Click on files tab at the top in Window Photo Gallery.
2. Click on import from camera or scanner.
3. Highlight your scanner icon (ie HP J5780) then click import.
4. New scan window will popup, now you can preview or scan using this basic looking Vista utility.

Hope that helps.

Can't get scanner to work.

What you need to change is your screen resolution to either 800 x 600 or to 1024 x 768 (in your desktop settings)

You will NOT have to restart your computer either.
Just restart your scanner program and you can start scanning.

At least that's my assumption, though you might have bad cables, or an incompatible program.
