I need the easiest possible directions to replace the coolant temperature sensor in my 1999 Chevy Lumina ltz 3.8 v6 car please.

The coolant sensor temperature is usually found just beneath the cylinder head, on the engine block.

You just disconnect the 1-2 wires and then undo it with a wrench.
The sensor will look like one of these:
1999 Chevy Lumina ltz 3 8 v6 coolant temperature sensor Google Search

Just be aware .. you may have TWO such sensors on your vehicle.

One sensor (usually with 3-4 electrical pins) is near the thermostat and works in conjunction with other sensors to regulate fuel/air according to engine temperature.

The other type of sensor is in the block near the cylinder head. It sends a signal to the temperature gauge on your dashboard ONLY. If your temp gauge constantly reads too hot or too cold .. this one is the culprit.25939754-r0ibht2u2t2rhetbyfvb2pry-5-0.jpg
If it's a running fault .. speed .. rough running .. fuel. It may look like this:

2007 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD. I was driving and my digital dashboard reported engine hot and AC turned off. My temperature gauge read cool. What do I need to replace?

This sounds like a bad coolant temp sensor that give computer false reading, check the coolant temp sensor connector and if it is good with no bad wires to connector then replace coolant temp sensor , when the computer gets a signal from temp sensor that engine is hot it turns fans on high speed to cool radiator and displays a/c turned off , if this truck does not have electric cooling fans then they wont run just explaining what happens depending on engine and cooling set up. replace coolant temp sensor and check connector.

Ambient temp sensor on chevy impala is reading -40

If you replaced the right sensor, there must be a problem in the wiring to the computer.
You did reset the computer - hit ac and recirculate buttons at the same time ??

Chevy impala engine hot a/c off light just came on

YOUR ACTION IS REQUIRED:
If the engine is not really overheating and not low of coolant.
IF IT IS DO NOT CONTINUE TO RUN THIS VEHICLE.

RECOMENDATIONS: Sight unseen.

Replace the temperature sensor.

The Failed temperature sensor has a zero reading for the Control board, without this reading the car starts running in limp home mode or Default and assumes the engine is running hot, first thing to go is your comfort... The AC.
In addition starts the engine cooling fan to running full time.

Hope this tip helps.

Where is the temperature guage located under the hood in my pontiac g6. I can not find it to replace.

The temperature gauge is actually a needle that read a range of Hot/Cold on the dash instrument cluster. If you are referring to the coolant temperature sensor, the location depends on the engine size. Post the engine size and we'll answer it better.
