The starter cord pulled out

I started my TB90BC string trimmer and the cord came out in my hand. I have removed all the screws I can find, but the red cover is still firmly in place. This is the first trouble I've had with this piece of equipment. How do I get the red plastic cover off to re-attach the string?

Remove the back cover that covers the muffler area and 1,2,3 switch and disconnect the throttle cable. Now remove the 3 screws that hold the engine assembly, they are forward of the red cover (towards the weedeater end). Slide the entire engine assembly out. Now you will see a silver piece that looks like a flat funnel, this is part of the clutch assembly, use the same allen wrench to remove the screw in the center of the hole. You will see the clutch plates. Now remove the spark plug, fold a 1/4 diameter or smaller piece of nylon rope in half making a loop, feed this inside the spark plug hole stuffing it in, you can grab the clutch and turn in clockwise until you feel resistance. (this is the piston smashing against the rope, you may have to repeat the process until it does not spin). remove the clutch springs with needlenose pliers and slide the clutch plates out. Now take some channel lock pliers and grab the shaft and turn it clockwise. Once it breaks free you can unscrew it completely. (Keep in mind there are washers, along the way) Now you can slide the unit away from the red cover, but ensure you disconnect the red and black kill switch wires. There is a silver cover, that shields the rope reel, remove those screws to expose the reel. The replacement cord needs to be the same diameter. You will see where the knot and broken end is. The reel has a hole in it where you feed it from out to in, pull the rope through where you can tie an overhand knot, and push it back in, take your time and dont fray the rope. You will see a slot on the edge of the wheel, you can hook the rope inside this slot and use it to spin the wheel clockwise until it stops. Do not feed the rope around the reel! While maintaing the tension, feed the free end of the robe through the cover through the silver bushing, now feed the end through the handle and tie a knot. Slowly guide the rope out of the slot and let the spring tension feed the rope on the reel. Now put it all back together...

Pulling string on weed eater does not want to turn

It's possible that the engine has seized if the pull cord won't turn the engine over. Remove the starter mechanism from the engine and try to turn the flywheel by hand. One or more of the mounting screws may be hidden under a decal or other label. If the engine won't turn at all, remove the muffler and check the piston skirt for bad scoring--which usually means either dirt inhalation (bad air cleaner) or running the unit on straight gasoline. Either of these conditions require replacement of the cylinder, piston and ring(s) plus labor if you farm out the repair. Weigh the approximate cost of up to $150 against a new trimmer. Hope this helps!

I have a craftsman line trimmer, I believe it is model #79107, pull string to start and string will not go back in ???

This can be a challenge to repair. The Torx screws holding the casing and machine to it will have to be removed to access the starter/recoil unit. If you have opened one up before, it's not that bad...if's a real learning process, Take your time, you will need Torx head screw removal tools and a little patience. Once you reach the starter unit, you will realize the problem. Go to that point and maybe post again later?

Pull Cord

I assume that the handle separated from the rope. You did not list the brand and model number in your question. More than likely this will require more experience than you are likely to have. If it is a string trimmer as the picture shows then the unit will require considerable teardown to get to the starter. When shopping for a string trimmer you should look for a model that allows the starter to be removed from the back of the engine with 4 screws. Starter repair is the most common repair you will see on cheap trimmers. If you have the removable starter it is a simple $10 repair but if the starter is located between the engine and the drive shaft it becomes a $40 repair.

Replacing pull string on Poulan BVM200VS leaf blower

You will need to split the housing and remove the impeller wheel. In doing this you will have to disconnect the throttle cable and the switch assy. This can be a hand full if you have never done one.

In the future when you are purchasing a string trimmer or blower

or hedge trimmer, be sure that the starter can be removed by

removing 4 screws. This makes starter repair a 5 minute $10 job

instead of an hour $40 or more job. The problem is that you will

not find this in most home centers or box stores. You will have to

go to a full service dealer.
