My old 1955 honeywell furance stay on all year round. How do I shut it off?

It needs to have a regular wall type switch wired into its 110 volt supply. or just pop the circuit breaker for it in the fuse box.

My totaline thermostat model #p474-0100-a the backlight is staying on and when the furance is running after only a couple of minutes it shuts off and my furance shuts down .


Multiple issues that are not related. If the pilot light goes out then the thermocouple might be bad. If the pilot ignites the gas and everything shuts off, it sounds like the over temperature sensors are detecting heat in excess of what is allowed in the firebox. The thermostat issue has nothing to do with this.

I have a Rheem heat pump and a Honeywell thermostat. I let my air filters get too dirty, and they restricted the air flow so the system shut off. I have replaced the air filters but the upstairs doesn't...


You may need to replace the furances high limit switch. This is located abvove the burrners with the top frot door off. It has two wires going into it. The furance probably was cycling on this switch which automatically resets it self. The thermal dics wears out and starts to trip at lower temperatures. You can temporally jump across the switch and check the furances opreration but do not leave this switch jumperd because it is a safty.

Flame sensor at furance nees to be cleaned. Remove front top cover at furance. Flame sensor is located left of last burner .Remove 1/4inch screw and clean wirh fine steel whole.

How do i change an old style honeywell room stat


Shut the furnace off for starters. Remove the old Thermostat. As you remove each wire write down what terminal it wen to.

Example:
Red wire usually goes to R-Power
Green Wire usually goes to G-Fan
White usually goes to W-Heat
Blue or Yellow usually goes to Y-Cool

you either have 2 thermostat wires bare and touching or a zone valve stuck open

look at the old thermostat and in the middle of it theres a arrow that is pointing at numbers that is called a heat anticipator. then on the new thermostat make sure that its set the same.
