Question about Dell 5100cn Laser Printer

Dell 5100cn is printing duplicate text and images..what do we do after vacuuming excess toner has not solved the problem?

Two possibilities.

You may need a new FUSER. The fuser is the hot thing in the back that bonds the toner to the paper. The fuser heat roller is coated with teflon so the toner won't stick to it while it's heating the paper. After a period of time/number of pages (usually 100,000+), the teflon wears out and the toner starts sticking to it and then gets transferred back to the paper after a revolution.

Is the whole image repeating? Chances are good that it's the fuser. If only one color is repeating, it's probably a faulty toner cartridge, as it may have worn out before the toner ran out. Have you changed cartridges yet? If you have not and don't want to buy another just to see if it will work, try a "half-page test. Start printing something. When yoou think the paper is about halfway through the printer, open the cartridge door to stop the printing. Don't worry about the error. Pull out the toner cartridge and see if the repeat defect occurs before the fuser. If it does, try a new cartridge. If it does not, you need a new fuser.

The Dell fuser is not as easy to change as an HP fuser, but if you are brave and have a screwdirver, you may be able to do it without calling a technician. Service manuals afor Dell printers are hard to track down. Fusers can be found online for about $200-300. Best bet, if you don't know what you're doing is to call a Dell authorized servicer.

This most likely to be a leaking toner cartridge in this particular printer. I would recommend changing the toner cartridge.

Dell 5100cn small dots of all colors are on all prints

I had the same problem on an HP, and the only thing that solved it was replacing the drum. Not sure if that will help, not even sure if that printer has a drum, but maybe swap out the ink or toner or drum and see if that helps. If it doesn't, at least the money you spent on those options goes towards something you can use...

How can I ignore the low toner error message and print black on a Dell 5100cn?

i believe that if you remove the color toner cartridges, it will stop asking and only print black. you may also be able to specify in the print menu settings to disable the color printing

We ran some aftermarket (non dell) toner in it and quit when the pages were coming out with color haze & streaks of various colors on them. Have vacuumed out old toner powder and installed genuine dell...

You need to be using dell toner for this printer not aftermarket becase the tecknolag it uses to do the printing will only work on the recamended toner catrages

The only effect that the "non Dell toner" setting has is to raise the fuser temperature to the maximum. Since all toners are made up of ink and plastic, the fuser is what melts the fine plastic to the paper.

Dell toner is designed to melt at a lower temperature, however, since the non dell toners temperature value is unknow, this setting allows for that unknown.

In any case, neither of these things will cause lite, or faded print. In Fact, the toner cartridge for this model is actually nothing more then a toner storage device. Some cartridges contain the toner, the developer, and the drum. On the 5100 and the 5110 this is not the case.

The photo developers are located behind the imaging drum. you can see the 4 seperate developers, in the developer frame, when you remove the drum unit.

More then likely, if only the black is printing poorly, and the colors are printing ok, then the black photo developer is defective. This is a very messy job if you do not know what you are doing, and very involved.

You need to remove the top cover, the left side cover, the high voltage power supply, the supply tubes ( where the toner travels from the actual toner cartridges down to the developers ). Then once the tubes are removed, you have to remove the developer frame from the printer. Then you can get to the actual photo developer.

Prints only blue and pink

There seems to be an electrical problem with the yellow toner. Check all the electrical contacts that make contact with the yellow toner. They may be just dirty or they may be bent. If they look good then the could be a problem with the power supply of the printer or the engine board.

toner saving mode and check out for dark or light effect
