Question about Acer Windows Vista TL-562G Notebook
22 July 2009 7:06 AM
I sent this email (shown below) to ACER support regarding my inability to load MS Win7 official copy (downloaded from MS website). In practice the only OS I can reload on this machine is a copy of the Vista operating system as provided by ACER! I can't load XP, or other versions of VISTA or Win7 without incurring the same warning as noted below.

I have my Microsoft Windows7 Beta DVD as provided by microsoft. When I try to install it on my Acer Aspire AM5641-E5620A Intel Quad Core Q6600 2.4Ghz, 3GB DDR2, 640GB HDD, nVidia FeForce 7100 Graphics, Super-Multi DVD R/RW, Audio, GLAN, Card Reader, Keyboard & Mouse, Vista Home Premium Ser No PTSB10X059845042FC2702 I get an error message, the system has shut down to protect my computer
The DVD boots properly and says it is recognizing my various drivers and all appears to be going well. The system then abruptly stops and tells me the system has shut down to protect my computer. How am I able to get around this problem? I wish to upgrade to Win7 in the future. Is there a bios update that I should be downloading? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Dear Gerry OGrady,
Thank you for contacting Acer America. I'll be happy to assist you with the issue regarding operating system upgrading.
While going through your system record in our database, we came to know that your system is in warranty.
Please note that Acer does not support changing an Operating System. Changing the Operating System may cause driver conflicts. You have the option of upgrading or changing your Operating System at your own discretion. However, it is preferred that you keep to the original configuration of your system so that all the programs and applications in your computer will recognize all the hardware installed in it.
The drivers are usually found on the Restore CDs or on the hard drive recovery partition (for medialess system). This may sound frustrating but you cannot use the Restore CDs to reload the drivers to a different Operating System. These drivers are configured with the original Operating System that came preloaded with your computer.
If you wish to install Windows 7 Beta, you may need to search online for the driver(s) of the device(s) you are looking for. However, please be advised that we cannot guarantee that these drivers will work on your computer. In addition, we are not liable for any damage or compatibility issue that they may cause. Please be advised that any changes or upgrades to the original configuration of the system are done so at the sole risk of you the end user.
Although we will still support the hardware of the system, we will not be able to support the new Operating System. We can still support the functionality of the system with the new Operating System. If the support reaches the point of suspected hardware replacement/repair vs. software support for the hardware, you must reinstall the original Operating System and drivers before the part can be replaced/repaired.
Alternatively you may contact local technician for more assistance.

QUESTION: Is there any solution to this problem?
Sincerely , Gerry
No win7 is not compatable with ACER at all yet. They only way to upgrade is to get a good copy from best buy. The win7 beta is for desk tops (ibm, HP and dell). This is the same thing that happened when win XP came out.
