1. Turn on your iPhone (in my case it would only get as far as displaying the Apple logo
2. Hold the power and home buttons down (the iPhone will power off after 10 seconds, but keep holding those buttons down)
3. After the iPhone powers off, release the power button (but keep holding the home button down)
4. After a couple more seconds, you should hear that magical “ding dong” that means the iPhone is coming back alive, and that Windows has detected it. You may even see a little “New hardware” popup in Windows. It is now safe to release the home button, and your iPod is in DFU mode.
5. Now iTunes will see it as a DFU’ed iPhone and should ask you to automatically restore its firmware.
6. iTunes has to download the new firmware, and it takes a while, so go make a sandwich.
7.then jailbreak your phone and unlock.thats all

Everything works fine except for the phonebook. I cant dail out or look at my contacts, but people can call and I can answer though I cannot hang up or do any of the features listed.

Hold down the home button and power button at the same until the iPhone shuts off.

Once the iPhone is off plug one end of the usb cable into the PC/Mac.

Open iTunes

While holding down the Home button plug the cable into the iphone, and continue to hold the home button until the connect to iTunes logo appears on the screen. This may take up to 30 seconds.

IPhone will not turn on i have tried charging via USB on a MacBook but no luck and have tried charging via AC adapter still no luck

Hi,
Here are the steps to reset the iPhone. You probably performed the first reset, try the other resets.:

If iPhone won't turn on, or the display freezes or doesn't respond
  1. Press and hold the Home button for at least six seconds, until the application you were using quits.
  2. If that doesn't work, turn iPhone off and turn it on again. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button on top of iPhone for a few seconds until a red slider appears, and then slide the slider. Then press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
  3. If that doesn't work, reset iPhone. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears

More resets:
Try This:
1. Remove Sim Card
2. Hold in 'Home' button and 'On/Off' button together until Apple logo appears
3. Replace Sim Card
4. Hold in 'Home' button and 'On/Off' button together until normal phone screen appears.

Also, Try this:
1.) Shut down the iPhone 3G.
2.) Start up iTunes
3.) Hold down HOME button on the iPhone 3G
4.) While keeping the HOME button depressed, plug in the Sync cable
5.) A message will pop up to ask if you want to reset.
6.) Just click YES and the reset process should start.

Take care

My touch screen does not work

There are a couple of things that might work. First, has the lock switch been accidentally bumped to lock. Second, try to power it down and remove the battery for about 10 seconds. Turn it on and see if that fixed it. It may have just locked up like computers do sometimes and even phones do too. A simple restart usually works.

My apple iphone was working fine bt now its on a hang up mode and cannot be even switched off.. how do i resart my phone..??

Try holding the power switch at the top of your iPhone, and while holding this down, hold down the "Home" button on the iPhone (round button on the bottom of the iPhone). Be patient, it may take a few seconds to shut down.

Is it possible to take out battery of iphone 3g? phone hang up

actually there is no batttery on the iphone to remove. The battery is hard wired to the phone board itself. However if you hold down the home key AND the power key down at the same time for about 15 seconds it resets your phone as if you removed and reinserted the battery.

Iphone 3g ,

Hold down the power button and home button for 10-60 seconds. Your iPhone will shut down and when the screen is black plug it into your computer like you want to charge. The screen will load good as new(or atleast mine and a few others have.
