How to change my password

Change Router Passwords

Network security has become a very real and important issue.
The ability for people to access sensitive hardware and information is a critical issue and all the measures that can reasonably be put in place to stop this act should be implemented.

One way to protect your network hardware is to change the password for access to your router from the factory default to one that is unique and private.
Read on to learn more.

Open your Internet browser, type the address of the router into the URL address bar, and open it. The address is typically in the form of 192.168.X.X.
This is the local network address.

Enter the account name and password to open the router setup utility.
Navigate through the setup utility until you find the screen that will let you change the password. You will need to enter the old password to change it.

Decide on a new password that has good security to a hacker.
The best password is more than 8 characters and uses both lower case and upper case letters and numbers.

Some will allow you to use special characters also.
Do not make the password anything that can be found in a dictionary or any date of significance.

Enter the old password in the change password page of the router.
When prompted then enter the new password.

You will be asked to enter it twice to confirm that the correct password is entered.
Immediately, record the new password in some secure location that you can find if you forget it.

Confirm the password change on the router page and log off the router.
To check the information and that the router has been setup correctly with the new password, open the router address in the browser again and login with the new information.

If you are able to login, you have successfully changed the password.

192 168 254

There should be four sets of numbers each seperated by a dot. These are the address of your router which will allow you to configure the router as you wish. Follow explanation below.

Broadband router manufacturers generally allow users to setup and configure the router settings through their web browsers. You just have to connect the browser to your computer and enter the default private IP address in the address bar of your browser.
The default IP address is factory set and is usually begins with 192.168. Some of the popular brands as given below use 192.168.1.254 as their default private IP Address.
  • some 3Com OfficeConnect routers
  • Netopia / Cayman Internet gateways
  • Billion ADSL routers
  • Linksys SRW2024 managed switches
  • Westell modems for Bellsouth DSL Internet service in the U.S.

192.168.1.254 Router Password

Alongwith the default Private IP Address, these manufacturers also set a default username and password. Users are allowed to change these default password settings. But in case they forget the changed admin and password details, they can use the hardware reset button to change all the settings to the default settings. In this process the password is also reset to the factory default value

How do i change the router network password? what is the ip adress??

The internal, LAN-IP address is normally set to a default, private number. Linksys routers, for example, use 192.168.1.1 for their internal IP address. D-Link and Netgear routers typically use 192.168.0.1. Some US Robotics routers use 192.168.123.254, and some SMC routers use 192.168.2.1. No matter the brand of router, its default internal IP address should be provided in documentation. Administrators often have the option to change this IP address during router setup. In any case, however, the private LAN-IP address remains fixed once set. It can be viewed from the router's administrative console.
The external, WAN-IP address of the router is set when the router connects to the Internet service provider. This address can also be viewed on the router's administrative console. Alternatively, the WAN-IP address can be found by visiting a Web-based IP address lookup service like http://checkip.dyndns.org/ from any computer on the home LAN.
Another way to identify the public IP addresses of routers, involves executing a ping or traceroute command. From inside a home network, the (DOS) command "ping -r 1" will send a message through the home router that will cause its IP address to be displayed. For example, "ping -r 1 www.yahoo.com" should result in a message like the following displayed on the command prompt:
To change router password Open your Internet browser, type the address of the router into the URL address bar, and open it. The address is typically in the form of 192.168.X.X. This is the local network address. Enter the account name and password to open the router setup utility. Some will allow you to use special characters also. Do not make the password anything that can be found in a dictionary or any date of significance. Immediately, record the new password in some secure location that you can find if you forget it. Confirm the password change on the router page and log off the router. To check the information and that the router has been setup correctly with the new password, open the router address in the browser again and login with the new information. If you are able to login, you have successfully changed the password. Network: Router Ssl Vpn

Simply change your password with your email provider and keep this information private. He will be unable to access your account if you change it to a password that is unknown to him.

I need help setting up security.

By default, your router will grab the first IP address on your private network. This address is usually 192.168.0.1.

Navigate to that address in your browser and it should pull up the login page to the configuration portal. By default, credentials to login are admin/admin. Once logged in, you should change that password right away.

Then you may change the security settings on the router according to instructions that should have been provided. Usually, configuration will include access control lists, hiding your SSID, and creating a secure network password.

Not able to logg into yahoo mail at all!

Logging into Yahoo mail results in "opening page about: blank" IE browser hang.
This is not caused by a virus, trojan, spyware or anything like that! Yahoo have been making changes to the appearance of their home page and also their e-mail, you've probably seen the new choices.
As a result, the screen resolution of 800 x 600 on many PCs will no-longer allow you to sign in without the "opening page about: blank" IE browser hanging problem.
Try changing your screen resolution to 1024 x 768, that should cure it!
Right click on desktop / Properties / Settings and move slider to 1024 x 768
