Only static am radio reception, bmw 330ci convertable 8 years old

The "hard wired" version that you speak of apparently only refers to the power supply.Do you have a seperate display for the Sirius unit? Now, you failed to mention the type of radio (factory or aftermarket); so, if you have to use an "empty radio station" then you have an FM modulator. This modulator could wired or wireless. The wired version interrupts the vehicle antenna wire and the station on said modulator is usually preset to either 88.1, 88.3,88.7, or 89.1. There is no need to power this modulator up, it comes on when then Sirius comes on. One way to check for power is to turn on the Sirius unit and tune your radio to an occupied Fm station. Wait a few seconds and listen to the reception. Turn off the Sirius unit, the reception should improve for the occupied station. If it is a wireless FM modulator it also has preset stations that you can change but, extending the wieless antenna will greatly improve your reception of the Sirius stations.

My XHD6425 seems to be very inconsistent... Sometimes I get okay reception, other times I get terrible reception (much worse than my original stock Ford radio). The reception problems are more noticeable on stations that are more than 30 miles away or so.
Perhaps oddest of all, I've sometimes had it bounce back and forth between two stations (like if you are driving and in the middle of nowhere, half way between two stations), even in areas where I know should be getting good reception on one station and had never heard of the other other station before.
If you've figured anything out, please let me know.

FM reception is good; however there is a lot of static on AM 1000. No problems on other AM stations. Any suggestions or than stop listening to "1000"?

this was common in the old days, if you realy want to listen to the am radio and you cant stand the static reving sound of your engin you may need resiter spark plugs and wires.

could be or the station you have on.in between towers you will get static.

most portables have a very weak FM receiver, and a building interior tends to block a good deal of signals. your best bet is an old fashioned unit with a large retractable antenna.

No, it should work, although it will depend on how good your reception is. This depends on how strong the signal is where you are trying to receive. If you have tried scanning for channels and all you receive is static, it's possible your tuner is bad. Have you tried to tune it to a known good station manusally?

I solved the problem, but I did not "fix" the problem. Rather than rig an antenna to the old Panasonic RF-544 radio, I put it upstairs where it has good reception. I put the new Sony ICF-38 downstairs where it brings in the stations I listen to. The advertsizing claim for the Sony ICF-38 is that it has "Good Sound and High Sensitivity." I believe it does have "high sensitivity" because even in the basement it brings in my desired stations. (I am still curious to know if I could have rigged an antenna to the old Panasonic RF-544.) Don't take your radio to work. Get your work done , then go home and listen to it. You will get better reception in a res. area.

the wire you use for the antenna is damage replace it or change the set to a other location.
