Question about Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

A/C repeatedly ''revs up'' then shuts off without engaging

While on auto cool my A/C acts like it's about to start (revs up for lack of a better word) and then just shuts off without engaging the compressor. It will do this intermittently sometimes every few minutes and sometimes every few seconds. It does, however, seem to be maintaining the temperature in the house and if I drop the temperature at the thermostat and tell it to hold that temperature, it seems to work just fine. What could be causing this cycling? Thanks in advance.

After listening more carefully to the sounds that it was making I think I need to make a major correction to my question. It's not the A/C that is "revving up", but the furnace. The problem being that I have the thermostat set to Cool, not Heat. When I switch over to Heat (and raise the temp on the thermostat) it makes the "revving up" sound and the heater kicks on just fine. My thermostat is 10 years old or so and is not one of those that switches between heating and cooling automatically.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks.

That's normal on auto cool, it should not be the case on cool only

bad idle, and surges.
gets better, does that mean it idles at the correct regulated RPM
HOT? 800.?
and does the engine coolant hit 180 to 200 F and hold there.?
Sounds like the ISC valve is stuck open, clean it.
ISC means, idle speed controls.
also air leaks, vacuum leaks can do this on speed density, EFI.
Im not sure which EFI you have, too lazy to look that up.

which engine do you have, and what country, ?
as a mech, i open hood and look, on the net , i cant do that.

Video card shut down

you probably need a higher watt power supply in your case. Most stock ones are only about 350 watt. you'l need like a 450 watt or better with that power hungry card.

You just need to go through a simple Idle Relearn Process.

The Idle Speed Control motor will cause the accelerator pedal to tap and the car will surge back and forth, actually acting like there is a lack of power during intial startup.

Whenever a battery is changed, went dead or the ECM computer is replaced.

In order to make the engine run normal again, you need to take the car through a relearn process. Otherwise the idle could be very slow or have a 30mph idle.

To enable it to relearn, here's what to do.

1) Disconnect the battery cable for 15 minutes, before hooking it back up.

2) (KOEO) Turn the Key On with Engine Off, just so the electronics are on, but without starting the engine and turn the climate control panel to off.

3) Push the off and warmer buttons on the climate control panel at the same time and hold for up to 5 seconds for the computer to go into diagnostics.

On the fuel panel screen it will display 888 then E52 and then 70.

When it gets to 7.0 shut off the key for 1 minute.

4) Repeat step 3, two more times.

5) Start the engine without pushing on the accelerator pedal and let it run for 18 minutes with the climate control panel off.

6) After 18 minutes put your foot on the brake and shift into drive and wait 1 minute.

7) Then turn on the a/c by pushing the auto button. It needs to be warmer than 60 degrees F so the compressor can engage. Wait 1 more minute.

8) Put the shifter back in park and turn the key off.

9) Wait 1 minute

10) Idle relearn is now complete and the engine should start and run correctly.

Auto tranny slipping after shifting out of second

Firstly is it slow for reverse, reverse clutch also engages in 3rd gear however reverse has a boosted circuit (more psi) therefore will engage rev but not 3rd but it is a little slow for reverse.
They do have a tendancy to pop a ball out of the High and reverse clutch giving this symptom.

is it a gas or a diesel? its commen for the gas motor to get really crappy millage try with the tow button off and the shifting should improve, but the gas try changing the air filter to a k&N or something better like it
