Question about Kenmore 46462 Front Load Washer

Sears Kenmore front loading washer bangs and clangs very loudly in the final spin cycle. It seems as though the drum is making contact with the sides of the washer. What is the cause?

I have a Kenmore 417, when it gets to the final rinse cycle the drum starts beating onto the left side of the washer and it leaks water

It could be bearings, but I would be on the shock absorbers as the cause. Take the back off and check to see if any are loose or leaking fluid. There are four of them I think -- one on each "corner".

2 possible issues with your washer.
1 or both the support shocks or springs have broken
the drum would look off center even when empty
or rear bearring has worn out.
this is a very common problem with the fridgidaire washer... (this kenmore is a frigidaire model)
problem is caused by very hard water (well water) or improper use of detergent. this machine uses a High efficency type detergent, marked by "HE" on the detergent container

Loud banging noise during final high speed spin

I have the HE3T which is 6 yo. Last week it started making a loud banging noise in the spin cycle. I had a repairman come out. He said it is the drum bearings. He said that it is a problem with these machines and to call Sears. He said that the drum and bearing is one assembly and that Sears should cover it.

I called today and Sears todl me that I have to pay for a Sears technician to come out a determine if it is indeed the problem. If so, it will be covered under the lifetime warranty on the drum. I have to pay for the service call $75.00 and if it is the problem, I will be reimbursed. Cross my fingers!
