It could be that the drive was infected by a virus. The Virus dumps an file with the name autorun.inf onto the drive and everytime u plug the drive into a pc - it wants to run the virus that autorun points to.

Try something - unplug the hard drive, then press the SHIFT key and while holding it, plug in your hard drive. DONT let go of the shift key until the drive has been detected (around 10 seconds should be find) then let go of the shift key - if the drive shows up under "my computer" DONT double click on it to open it as that will jsut run the virus again ... instead .. RIGHT click on the driver and choose explore. If you can see the drive this time - it is a virus and the best option is to remove the virus or format the drive - post another question if this does not work.

Good luck

Why is my hard disk drive indicator light always blinking on my Sony Vaio Laptop? My laptop reads cds and dvds fine, it is just annoying to always see it blinking.

This is perfectly normal. Your hard-disk indicator light is always blinking because your hard-disk is constantly being used by the operating system. Windows and other applications are performing operations in the background which require both reading from and writing to the hard-disk regardless of whether you are doing anything or not.

You only need to worry when the hard-disk light STOPS blinking . . . permanently!

When I t urn on my laci external harddrive I get a fast pace blinking light and when I put my ear to it, it seems that the motor wants to start running then nothing Just a constant blinking blue light!

It seems that you have a problem with the disk-drive inside the case. If it still is under warranty, exercise the warranty to get it replaced.
If not, then disassemble the case, and remove the disk-drive.
Connect it as a "slave" disk-drive inside a desktop computer,
to see if it can be read. If not, then it is "dead".
You could buy an identical disk-drive, and put it inside the case,
to construct a "new" external disk-drive.

Light on front just blinks

this could be for several reasons. Normally a light blinking on a hard drive is to say that the disk is being accessed. but if it happnes for a long period of time, then you might have a issue with the disk itself.

i suggest that you try the device on another PC, a friends or relatives. if you have the same problem , i am afraid that you might have a disk error

My Dell Studio 540 blinking hard drive light

the hard drive light blinks whenever the Hard drive is accessed, and sine this is where everything is stored, that happens a lot. the only way to completely disable it is to unplug it from the motherboard.

Inspiron 1525 not starting up

Take out the memory and install them one stick at a time in each slot one at a time. As your doing this, turn on the laptop and see if the video comes back on.

If that doesn't work then take the hard drive out and the dvd drive out.

Turn on the laptop now and if you still dont get video then that means the motherboard is bad at that point.

Computer won't start up and has a constant tone.

If the noise is constant then it means the problem is either:

1: a Power supply issue
2: a motherboard issue
3: a keyboard problem

the latter of the three being the easiest to fix, try booting with your keyboard unplugged or even better if you have another keyboard try using it to see if that corrects the problem.

If the above does not work then you have a problem with 1 or 2, and in order to find out for certain you will need to test it, you can goto your local computer diagnostic store to see if they can check which it is.

and hope its not a problem with the motherboard.

Hope this helps, and Good Luck
