Question about Dell Inspiron 5160 Notebook
Basically my power charger packed up due to a frayed wire. The laptop was in standby mode but the battery (which never held a good charge for longer than 10 mins as the machine is a good 4 yrs old) must have gone dead. Having bought a new power charger I can not get anything to work. I can use the shift key plus power on but get exactly the same results as the previous post i.e. altrnating green and yellow lights on front of machine and num lock light permanently on as well as the fan but NO screen. Machine will not turn off unless power cord removed together with battery as power button doesn't seem to function either. Is this a terminal problem and it's best just to get another lap top, or is it fixable for no or small cost?
This laptop could have a faulty RAM or motherboard, reseat the RAM memory module, to make proper electrical contact.
Next go into the BIOS configuration the check the system, hard drive etc. If this doesn't work then most likely the motherboard is faulty, especially if the Caps and Num lock LED lights are either locked on or off.
If the laptop is dead I suggest you put your money towards a new laptop, and if the hard drive is OK then remove it and put it into an USB hard drive adapter case and use it as an external USB hard drive (storage device).

After that frayed wire then you have trouble with your laptop again, i am a technician but supposed to see that personally that laptop it should be good for now. The keyboard is malfunction already, i mean it hang-up, all the lights are on and it cannot turn off unless power cord remove. This time i diagnosed that your laptop have a problem inside, call a technician.
