Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

I bought a 37 inch lcd hdtv in December. With it was a one year warranty for on-site service with free parts and labor. On July 4th I encountered a problem and could not resolve it so I called tech support. They tried to walk me through a couple of solutions that were not successful. They said that it would need to be repaired. This would be with a third party service as the maker of the tv had gone out of business. As a result of this, their on site- repair no longer exists. They will still cover extended warranties but not the original manufacturer warranty that accompanies a purchase. I am being asked to ship my tv to California from Tulsa OK, at my cost and they will still honor the parts and labor. The retailer also doesn't cover any shipping unless you purchase the extended warranty, which is sold through the store. The manufacturer is still selling this television on line and in stores. On their web-site it says that on some models on-site repair is available within the 1 year warranty that accompanies the purchase. Isn't six months down the road a little late to find out about the discrepancy in the warranty because of GOING OUT OF BUSINESS only to see that they offer it with some advertised to this day

First off I need the make and model of the tv. That will help me assist you properly. Now if this is an "off" brand then this actually happens quite often. The money you save up front on these "bargain" brands will cost you in the long run because of situations like this where quality and customer service make all the difference. Once I have more information I will continue to assist you. Please don't request another expert until I get a chance to do so.
Thank you,
Lee

Basically their isn't much you can do. As u stated. the company filed bankruptcy and ceased operations. Now you can send the tv to an independent repair center. Though I would just sell it for parts and consider it a life lesson. When you buy these off brand products. Your saving a little money but beware because in the long run you end up worse off. Because of quality and customer support. So basically your options are to ship the tv to have it repaired. Which who knows how long the tv will last after that if it hasnt even lasted this long. The reason they are still for sale is because retailers still have inventory. If your interested at all in having it repaired. I would take them up on their offer. If not I would highly suggest you research your next tv before buying as this will save you a ton of headaches in the long run.
Option two is to purchase a replacement. If you know what size tv your looking for. I can suggest a few models from quality manufacturers that have almost zero chance of ever going bankrupt. I have seen this so many times. People with bargain brands that get shafted with situations like this. Also if you see any site with that warranty, I would contact them about false advertisement. Or send me a link I would be happy to send them notification of the issue.
If you have any other questions or need further assistance please let me know before considering not accepting my solution.
    Thank you,
    Lee

Air flow vent is blocked, tv keeps shutting down, mitsubishi ws-55615, how to fix ?

Mitsubishi's product line includes a wide array of LCD, Flat Panel, and DLP televisions to suit your home entertainment needs. The electronics division has the distinction of inventing the first rear-projection television and selling the very first HDTV in America. Their 400,000 square foot manufacturing facility, located in Irvine, CA, boasts the ability to produce more than 1,000 projection TV's in one day. The company's oft-stated goal of unmatched excellence is driven by their mantra: "Technically, anything is possible." In June, 2008, Mitsubishi introduced a new premium flat panel TV with an integrated 16-speaker sound projector.
Warranty Information
There is in-home service on all big screen models, which have warranties of 30 days for screens and one year for parts and labor. The LCD televisions have a one year warranty on parts and one year on labor with carry-in service. For plasma sets, in-home service is available on all models. There is a one year warranty on parts and one year on labor. The faulty thermal sensor, mentioned in the commmon repairs section, is now covered by an extended 2 year warranty, as is the problem related to the optical engine.
Common Repairs
For the following models: WD-52631, WD-57731, WD-65731, WD-Y57, WD-Y65, WD-57732, WD-65732, WD-57831, WD-65831, the most common repair problem stems from television shutting off almost immediately after it has been turned on accompanied by the message, "TV will shut down in a few seconds. Please check if the air flow is blocked." According to the Mitsubishi website, this issue is caused by a loose connection as a result of a faulty thermal sensor. For models: WD-73727, WD-73827, WD-73927, WD-73732, WD-7383, the most encountered repair problem has been in relation to the optical engine. Another common situation consumers have encountered is failure of the TV to turn on along with unceasing flashing of the green power light. The solution for this problem, caused by the DM board, will vary by repairman. Consumers have also encountered issues with moving vertical or horizontal lines appearing on the screen which can either be due to problems with the capacitor, light engine, or formatter board.

There is a flashing message on teh screen that says, " This function is not available now."

I get this message when I've selected an input such as 'HDMI1' or one of the component inputs and try to change channels with the TV remote instead of the cable remote.

There is a part inside the TV that needs to be replaced. If the TV is under warranty—whether the original warranty from the manufacture or an extended warranty purchased with the TV—call the company providing the warranty coverage and they will arrange to have your TV repaired at little, or no cost to you.

Since some brands will pay for your repair even if you're out of warranty, especially if they've heard of your problem before and it's a known issue. You should always contact the manufacture first for your full range of options. If they're willing to fix the TV for free, or at a reduced cost to you, let them!

If the TV is out of warranty, and you have the experience and you know what you're doing, you can fix the TV yourself. Purchase the service manual from the manufacture to get started. However, if you've never done anything like this type of repair before and you don't know where to start, I suggest speaking with an experienced TV repair-person.

If you decide to pay for out of warranty repair by a professional repair shop, the total cost will likely be a minimum of $200 parts and labor. However, be warned that the cost could be considerably higher.

I hope I've provided you useful assistance and that this information allows you to make an informed decision as to how to proceed from here. Please be sure to vote on my response. I hope I've earned a good rating from you today!

Please post a comment if you need additional assistance so that I can help you further.

Toshiba LCD TV AV500E Turns off then on every 5 minutes

It sounds to me that the Main board is causing the problem. But I would get in touch with Toshiba for a warranty repair. It has a one year parts and labor warranty. It makes it a lot cheaper for the pocket.
Good Luck,

I have a 37 inch Insignia flat screen tv. This morning we were watching tv and all of a sudden the tv went black. We still could hear the movie playing but no visual. We turned the tv off and on and all...

This unit needs to be tested in a service center because it has problems with the operation of the video card. This could be caused by a loss of voltage supplying the video card from the power supply card. Or a failure on the video card itself. You can purchase parts for unit from Best Buy Parts at !-888-237-8289 and get customer service at 1-877-467-8289. You should get an estimate from the service center, That should tell you which parts are bad and then you can proceed from there. If the prices seem too high for parts and labor from the service center, try buying the parts yourself and have them install them for you. You should try to check the prices on the parts , just to make sure you are getting a fair deal. You can do this by getting the part numbers, you should ask the service center to provide the part numbers needed if they need to replace the power supply board or video board and with your model number of television check out the prices and availability at the Best Buy Parts website.Of course if the television is still under warranty send it in for warranty service. Hope this helps you with your problem.

Broken screen on a 37 inch hd lcd

That may have been an expensive tantrum - I doubt if it will be repaired as a warranty item and the typical cost of replacement makes it a costly lesson.
I doubt if the LCD panel is priced under $6-700.
