Pfaff 2056 display screen went dark. The machine will still sew straight stitch but can't change stitches.

The needle position of the Pfaff Creative 1473 can only be changed for straight stitches. Use the stitch width + button (the top of the pair of buttons in the middle of the row below the LCD display) to move the needle from left to right. The range of positions depends on your stitch choice. There are 19 positions available for stitch programs 01, 03, and 04. There are 17 positions available for program 05 (triple straight stitch). The stitch programs are indicated on page 2 (page 6 of the PDF) of the manual. The use of the stitch width buttons is on page 30 (page 34 of the PDF). See pages 50-53 for additional information. Different symbols will appear in the display to show the needle position (to the left, center or to the right).

I have a 2056. I open the little door with the red light and closely watch my top thread for when it stops catching a bobbin thread until it is used up. I stitch more slowly but at least not annoyed and not wasting thread. Dawn Illinois

Since your machine can do decorative stitches, I would think it can take a twin needle. Just BE SURE you have installed the needle plate with the wide hole for the needle and do NOT set a wider stitch than the twin needle can accommodate on it's widest setting without checking by turning the handwheel--the twin needle will overreach and either hit the presser foot or needle plate and sent needle shards flying!!! The manual should have instructions.

You need to also have a blindstitch stitch on your machine. It looks something like this:

The straight stitch segment is stitched on the hem fabric, but the V portion zags over and catches a couple threads in the fold on the wrong side of the garment fabric.

Look under the tools menu. There should be a setting for straight stitch needle plate or something like that.

You have unknowlingly changed a setting and are using a decorative stitch of one kind or another.

First you should change the Needle. And check the stitch regulator. Otherwise change the bobbin & case .

Where has it been for ten years? This could have a big affect on an electronic sewing machine.

Take the machine in to a sewing machine shop for service.

The stitch selector switch is most likely the culprit. Have you tried operating the machine upside down?

Unfortunately, this is most likely a computer board issue and there's just no way to predict if/when a board will go bad.

Your only option at this point is to take it to an authorized Pfaff dealer. If the person who serviced it was an authorized Pfaff tech, take it back to them. If not, do take it to a Pfaff dealer - non-Pfaff authorized techs are not trained on the machines.

Sorry I can't give you a simpler answer, but until this is corrected, your machine won't work properly.
