THE SCREEN WILL NOT WORK ON MY ACER ASPIRE 5500Z laptop

The computer works because I can plug my desktop monitor into the laptop and it works fine. When you power up the laptop the screen gets a little light but you cannot see anything. Is the video dead - can it be saved?

Dear perrybethea,

Welcome to fixya Customer Support

By analysing your problem it is deffinately due to screen(LCD) problem. So It is the time to replace Laptop screen. By working as a computer hardware engineer i solved similar problem by replacing screen because there is no choice of repair, screen goes bad.So replacing laptop screen is the solution. If it covers warranty u can replace screen free of cost,by visiting nearer Acer service centre.if it not covers warranty you can extend your laptop warranty by purchasing warranty extension packs.

good luck perrybethea

It sounds like you need to toggle the video output back to your laptop monitor. I'm not entirely sure which keys do this on the fujitsu but worth trying fn with f11

not 100% sure of your query but will have a go. If you have deleted the drivers for the mouse pad then you can get them here. If the mouse pad just doesn't work you can plug in a usb mouse and that will work.

Acer monitor wont exit power save mode. Ive tryed 2 different monitors. 1 the acer the other a dell and didnt work on both, but the dell works fine as long as its not that pc. I removed the motherboard...

Assuming that it is an "external" monitor, and not the built-in LCD screen in your notebook, you have to tell your computer which option you want:
* output only to internal screen
* output only to external monitor
* output to both internal & external.

Look for a BLUE-coloured 'FN' key on your keyboard, and a button that cycles through the above 3 settings. Push that button while HOLDING the 'FN' key down.

If your computer is set to "internal-only", then the external monitor will _stay_ in "power-save" mode, although the monitor will work fine if connected to some other "desktop" computer.

My computer screen is black

Turn your computer off.
Make sure both cords from monitor are plugged in.
Make sure you have pressed any required "on" button on front or side.
Try your monitor on a friend's computer.

Tell us whether or not it worked there and what kind of monitor it is.

Peripherals not working

Try plugging in a full size desktop monitor and reboot your computer. If the new monitor turns on its a problem with the LCD screen. If not, it is a problem with the main laptop which means a motherboard problem or a RAM problem. Try removing the RAM memory and reboot.

Hello, Computer = Acer Aspire 3680 Problem = Loaned to a friend in need, with computer working fine. When it came back, the screen resolution is so large, I can only see the left top quarter of the screen....

If using Vista, connect the external monitor try pressing Fn+ F5 or F6. If this doesn't work, try right-click desktop. select personalize, selct display setting at the bottom of list. in Display setting window click Identify Monitors on top right. if 2 pops up on external monitor, monitors are arranged properly. If external say 1 external is set as default and switch by clicking 1 and clicking pull down menu and select Generic PnP. then, set Resolution to high. Also make sure that Extend the desktop to this computer, isn't checked. Another test would be to check Exten Desktop to this Computer and select This is My Main Computer.
Otherwise you may want to try to Rollback the Driver for video card, an update from Microsoft my have been installed while your friend had it and these usually mess up video displays. You can also click Advanced Settings in Display Settings and click through the tabs that pop up to check operations and hardware acceleration settings.
