Most uprights use a small belt that drives the carpet brush. if you have the manual for it usually it'll show what type or size belt is needed for replacement, as well as the procedure for replacing the belt.
Hope this helps!

Brushes will not move

Try to turn the brushes by hand. If they won't turn remove the brush assembly to see if it is seized, if it is, take it apart and clean the brushes and the gears. If it is nor seized the turbine might be seized.

F7441-980 brushes won't turn

Paul:

Turn the vacuum over and remove the foot plate. Check the belt and manually try to turn the brushes. If the belt is OK, the brushes need to be removed and the roller bearings at the end of the brushes cleaned (hair, fibers, dust,) I remove the roller bearings and shoot them with alcohol while turning them until they turn free, then blow the alcohol out and lube them with one drop of light machine oil.

I have a Dyson Telescope vacuum. Everything works fine, except the attachment used for floors. I can feel air and suction going through the attachment, but the brush doesn't rotate or move at all....

If you have suction as you say, the tool is faulty.
They come apart so you can clean them. remove all hair and debris from the roller brush (use a coin to split it using a quarter turn on the two/three screws). Try turning the brush with your fingers. If it is stiff, it needs attention to the bearings in the tool probably. If it turns OK, then the mini turbine inside is faulty -- replace the tool.

Brushes not working

brushes not turning are usually caused by the turbine bearings have seized. The turbine cost is about $35 average. on the bottom you can check a pull out filter to clean. there are also 2 screws that are recessd check by hand for tightness that hold the turbine. checkthe brushes for cleaning and free of debris. check the square shaft on the brushes as well. take it to a trusted vac shop who works on hoovers if you are not mechanically inclined for this type of repair.

Brush bar wont turn, Bissell smells like burning rubber

The belt just goes from the motor shaft to the brush roll. Do the ends of the brush trun freely, or is one of them froze up, if so replace the brush roll. If it is ok, try to turn the brush roll by hand, maybe the belt got pinched and won't move.

Sounds like a bad motor bearing. If it is, then you would have to replace it. Could be the brush roll, did you check the ends to make sure they turn easily?

Brushes not turning

Check the belts, there ia cogged belt that drives the brush roll. Turn the unit over, take out the one screw holding the red lock, pull that off then the cap for the brush roll will pull out, remove the cap and check the belt, also check the pulley on the end of the pump to make sure that it still has cogs on. If there are no cogs, then you will have to replace the pump. While you have the brush roll out, make sure the it looks ok on the end and not melted. This would also be a good time to replace the **** belt if it needs it.

sounds like brushes not being pressed down to the commutator shaft. pull out brushes and clean the brass brush guides and then apply a light coat of grease to brushes. however, what exactly do you mean by "the fan is OK"?
