If I remember correctly, the v3000 series was part of the recall for the nVidia video cards. does it by chance have a nVidia geforce go 6xxx,7xxx,or 8xxx series video card?

Hi DX,

was the adapter you tried the same voltage and amperage(listed on the bottom as V and Amp, usually 19V, 3.42Amp or something similar). If it was not, don't ever plug it into that laptop again...it can cause a lot of damage if they don't match.

Assuming they were the same, that means the adapter is not, or at least not the only problem. Try reseting the laptop, remove the power supply and the battery, then hold the power button down for 60 seconds. Once you've done that, plug the power in again and try turning it on.

If it fires up, wait for it to finish and then shut it down and put the battery back in, then try again. If it's still working your done, if it fails your battery is the problem.

If it doesn't work on the first try the problem is either in the charging circuitry or worse. If that's the case you will need to take it to a qualified shop, or depending on price of the repair, replace it.

Ok,

Given that information and assuming the other adapter is good, it sounds like a dead short in the laptop. If you're lucky it's either in the power button($50-80 to fix) or it's in the AC plug($100-200 to fix) If it's on the motherboard repairs could be $500 or more and may not be worth doing.

I would take it into your nearest HP repair center or Call 1-800-hp-invent and ask first if it's under warranty, second if it may be under recall and if not, do they have a flat rate repair option available for that model. Once you have that info in hand you can decide if it's worth repairing or not.

If you choose not to deal with HP directly, provide me with you Country, State/Prov and City and I will point you to a nearby facility that can help with the hardware repair.

SOURCE: Can this HP Pavilion DV9000 laptop adapter fit for

The pins appear to be the same size, I have used these adapters for some time, Most of the "V" series and "DV" series share the same power adapters. In fact the adapters are the same voltages, which is 18.5-19.5 volts.

My laptop won't turn on, and the charger doesn't seem to be doing anything. even when plugged in, it won't start. ideas?

You've to replace the ac adapter, if it's brick doesn't get warm or LED does not glow on Power Jack on the laptop. offcourse, check with the wall different sockets

power jack can also be loose. so jiggle the cable to find out.

if notebook is getting power, you can remove the battery, ac adapter, hold and keeep pressing poer button for a minute, then, turn it on.

finally, you can take out hdd and ram, put them back again and turn on the laptop. hope it will help

Hi. I have a HP Compaq 6820S, Intel Pentium T7250, 2 Gb RAM, 160 Gb HDD, i have a problem, Laptop won't charge battery. I let the laptop in sleep mode, around 7 days, when i come back, battery was 0%,...

try a new battery yet? (brand new fresh)
sleep mode. so you want it to run for 7 days in sleep.
ive no idea how long this laptop runs in sleep
and hibernate is longer.
no idea at all.
you do know that the speed features are programmable
right?
including what chips do and do not go to sleep'
like USB ports, WIFI, and all wake on , features. like Ethernet chip.
and more.
why not just turn it off, and let the battery last longer..
this mode sleep kills batteries faster. way faster.
leave it plugged in all the time to the wall pack.
so the battery never drains unless you need to use it, on battery.

Computer freezes right after start up

Try to turn off the laptop. Remove the cables and battery on it , press and hold the power button for 8 secs. Then reinsert the cables and battery on the laptop. Turn it on, then check if the pc freezes up. If it is, check if your keyboard has lights on it. If there is no lights, need to call compaq to replace the motherboard. If keyboard has lights and you dont know how to remove the parts inside your laptop, you still call compaq to replace the power supply or the video card of your laptop.
