Question about GE Spacemaker JVM1640SJ Microwave Oven

GE spacemaker Power goes off and clock needs resetting

My GE Spacemaker (about 6 years old) over the range microwave keeps kicking off the power and asking me to reset the clock frequently. I have done a hard reset by pulling the plug and waiting 5 to 10 minutes. It will start up again and then after a short while cut out. Sometimes it will do it by just turning on the light and fan (without the microwave being on). I pulled the control unit away from the microwave (leaving the wires intact) and again, after a short while it would kick off like before so I am not sure it is the megnatron. Any ideas?

Try going to the breaker box and shutting off the power to the microwave for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, turn back on and set the clock. This fixed my clock and turntable both. Apparently turning off the power resets the software in the clock.

GE Spacemaker shuts off after a few seconds and asks for the clock to be reset

Ge Spacemaker comes on ok but after a few seconds the noise level goes up significantly and it does not heat. It keeps running until the time runs out but it doesn't heat.

GE Spacemaker Microwave lights flicker on then off

There must be a short in the wiring between the bulb sockets and the power supply or control board. Otherwise the short may be in the bulb sockets themselves.
I would test the connections to make sure the wires aren't loose and all solder joints are tight. If all wires look good, and bulb sockets are tight, then the problem may be faulty capacitor

Reset clock, ge spacemaker xl1800 times out after 2-3 seconds

There's a simple fix for this. Unplug the unit. Take off the top grill with 2 screws. Remove the 1 screw that holds the touch pad unit. Lift up on touchpad unit and lift out. Put a piece of aluminum foil inside a large zip lock bag and tape it to the back of the touchpad unit and reassemble. GE put the magnetron to close to the control board causing stray microwaves to interfere with the board. The foil shields it.

Spacemaker quit working.....

sounds like a short in unit and if it is then must be taken apart to observe operation and failure spot. depending on the age GE has warranties that cover magnatron up to five years< most likely cause of problem> suggest calling company before procieding any further.
