With the covers removed and the front of the radio facing you with the component side up, You will see a transformer with yellow, blue or red colored tape around the center. VR4 is located to the left of that. If you still can't find it, then remove D11 to open up the audio.
Sounds like you need a tech to "ALIGN" your radio! I have one of the same radios I bought at a yard sale last summer. I just haven't taken it to a tech yet. I have to many radios! lol "WILDCAT" IN LAURELVILLE OHIO 35 YEARS IN THE CB RADIO WORLD
Hi, my name is John. Either that or you have a bad capacitor in the volume. Try going with the external first. Then go from there.May be other issue...Let me know. I will post it here...hope this was helpful rating..
ant. light should only come on if you have a high vswr a bad thing did you check that cb/pa switch is set to cb check your swr this is not a good place to mount ant. as it is close to metal of back of cab
The radio needs to be tuned. This should only be done by a licensed repair shop. You will spend less money taking it to a shop than you will buying testing and tuning equipment needed to do it yourself, which would void the warranty.
As I understand from a tech friend of mine, most truck beds are not grounded well enough. Perhaps you could borrow/purchase a magnet mount antenna and locate it on the roof, for testing. Then you would have it narrowed down to the location.
To my knowledge and depending on what board your Cobra 29GTL used, R46 is 47ohms dropping resistor after the switched 12V. Its output is then filtered by C20, 100uF/16V. While it is true that a shorted C20 would burnout R46, the issue is most likely a shorted FET2 (P/N 2SK104H). Should FET2 proved to be shorted, then it is very possible also that inductor/coil near FET2 is defective (LT-A108?).
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.
Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.
