Check and see if your speakers (on the computer output) are turned off or all the way down in volume first. If that is ok then you may have a defective amp in the speaker system.

My philips htl4110b soundstage speaker doesn't power on at al..i bought it just yesterday.i have checked all my connections but it doesn't seem to work

if your source is a pc the setting might not be sending sould to the speakers, to test the speakers disconnect the audio in cable and connect it to a known souce of sound such as mp3 player smart phone etc and test that the speakers work that way. if that doesnt work take them back.

I inherited old Altec Lansing ADA 745 speaker/sub woofer. They once worked beautifully with older desktop (XP Operating) and newer laptop with Vista operating system. Now, I only get the lowest volume...

If it works on another computer without any problem, then problem might not be with your speaker, it must be with the computer's probably with sound settings. I think it was working with your windows XP running desktop and your other laptop, but it doesn't work with another (new) computer. If so, could you please let me know the model and make of your new computer with the operating system installed on it? If the sound card on your new computer is onboard, then I will be able to find out the details about the sound card and it's related software and I would check out it's settings/features. But if in case the sound card's purchased separately and you installed it, then I would need that sound card details.

If my assumption is wrong and your problem is with your speaker, then I won't recommend you to get it repaired. If it's a new item and you still have the warranty unexpired, then that's another case, and so this would be your time to use the Warranty.

Let me know with the details mentioned above.

Thanks.

I bought a x-530 5.1 and i cant seem to get all the speakers to work

First you have to connect them correctly to your sound card (green=Front, Black=back, orange= central+woofer)
Then set your sound card from it's drivers to 5.1 output.
All 5.1 sound cards should have a 5.1 sound test for each speaker, if not try a mp3 in windows media player.
Remember you have to set 5.1 output in each program to have sound in each speaker.

My left side speaker is not working. I plugged in another speaker to the sub output (the plug not working) and got nothing, which proved to me that the speaker wire and speaker itself is not faulty. ...

could be the sound card or its driver. Check your sound properties and make sure the correct set up is selected like 2.1, 5.1 adn 7.1. Verify that the volume levels are balanced, and if nothing helps, reinstall the video driver first. If this does not resolve it, might be a good idea to test the speakers on another system just to confirm they are all ok. If that works, you may need to get a new sound card, or test the card on another computer if possible to confirm if it is at fault. Hope this would be helpful to you.

Speakers are plugged in properly but won't work

Hi Rachelle,

First of all, make sure that the sound is not accidentally muted.

If the sounds seem to play, it means that your speaker cables are faulty or have some kind of break in them. Or, your speakers or the electronics inside them developed some kind of fault.

Unplug the speakers and the speaker cables and test them on another computer. If they work fine on another computer, the problem could be your sound drivers. You could also test the sounds, using a headphone in place of the speakers. If you can hear the sounds fine with the headphones, the problem is with the speakers or the cables.

This may be less likely since the sounds seem to play, but it's still possible that your sound driver is incorrect or not the one meant for your sound card.

Start the Device Manager (Right-click My Computer -> Properties -> Hardware -> Device Manager) and under the "Sound, video and game controllers", see that the sound driver is listed.

Double click the item in that list that contains the word "audio device" in its name. Does Device Manager say that the device is working properly? If Device Manager says that the audio device is not working properly, or if there is a yellow exclamation mark next to the device, or if it says that the drivers are not installed for this device, install the drivers from the CDs or from the laptop manufacturer's website. However, there's an easier way to do this, as given below.

Here's the easy way to get or update your sound drivers:

You could try to use this driver scanning tool, which scans the computer for needed drivers and has an option to automatically retrieve them for you.

You can download this free tool from here or directly from this link.

After you have downloaded the above file, double-click on it and follow the simple steps to install it. Then, when it asks if you want to run it, just answer yes. This is easier than manually searching, downloading and installing the drivers.

If, after trying with the above method, sound still can't be heard, you can try with the System Restore. To know more about System Restore, go to this link.

If none of the above methods worked, pull out your sound card and test it in another computer. You can also try re-installing Windows and lastly try another sound card, if it still fails to work.

Hope that helps,
Regards,
Raspal

My hp speakers wont work

Sample testing is usually a firmware built into the monitor amplifier ie the monitor is testing itself. you problem possibly lies with the computer sound system. Tell me more about this. Is it an 'On-board' sound card or separate PCI card. You can determine this by looking at the back of the computer- if all the connectors - sound- PS2 and USB are in the same panel - then it is an on-board system. If the sound is separate in one of the card position then it is a PCI card. The possibility is the sound system needs setting up- check your computer paperwork/manual and utilities disk for Audio drivers. Come back with some answers
