I ran into the exact problem. No support for my old, old radial arm saw.

I took the top off the arm, removed the old broken switch and replaced it by screwing a standard electrical box to the top of the arm, extending the wires and then using a standard light switch to make/break the circuit. Looks kinda dorky, but it works fine. There's no relay involved, as the motor has a step/start capacitor.

As always, this is my work around, and I do not recommend or advise you to do anything you're not comfortable with. All I'm saying is that you'll have to find another solution to the fact that the switch is no longer available. The saw works great, btw, and the switch is very handy on top of the saw arm. Good luck.

How do I relace a discontinued part for a Craftsman radial arm saw model number 113198610, part number 815836?

Sears is no longer the company it once was. I believe it has ceased to be a manufacturer and is now only a brand owned by someone else. When the parts list says "obsolete", that's what it means.
Is it a part you can make?

We just acquired a Craftsman Radial Arm Saw and have no idea how to turn it on.

It really depends on the age of the saw. There's a switch either on the top or end of the arm (older model) or just behind the handle on the motor itself, there is a flip switch that you pull outward. It should have a small (yellow) plastic insert in it that acts as a safety key and prevents the saw from being started by children, etc. If you see a slot in the switch with no inserted clip, the safety device has been lost and you will have to replace it in order to run the saw. If you need to replace the switch, search google for "sears craftsman radial arm saw safety switch" or see this link.
You may be able to get a manual for your saw at this link, depending on its age. Otherwise, you might call sears service center or check the new saws and see if a comparable part will work with your model. I have also had good luck finding old manuals at this site.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!

How do I release the arm of a radial arm saw to cut miters?

Near the blade there should be a clamp that allows the saw head to be tilted to cut an angle miter through the board. The other miter adjustment is a clamp at the top of the post to let the radial arm swing at an angle, this would be used in conjunction with the other adjustment to cut a compound miter. I hope you are not totally confused now.

Need a manual for an old Radial Arm Saw, Craftsman...

Go to: and enter the complete model number minus the decimal point. This will bring you to a series of available parts drawings and hopefully, the manual. Good luck!
