No, it's something that isn't supposed to do as a home owner. The igniter generally is held on by one screw at the end of the burner jet with 2 wires leading off of it. Disconnect the power to the unit and remove the screw and slide it out. If it's a hot surface igniter, do not touch the surface of it because this will cause it to blow. It's also very fragile as well. If it's a spark igniter, make sure the old one isn't oxidized at the tip and if it is, try cleaning it with a fine abrasive cloth and reassemble.
