Look for a deep scratch on the disk or maybe a lot of dirt in the face.

SOURCE: help with a toshiba TECRA 8100

Yes, it should run WinXP. The minimum system requirements to run both Windows XP Home and Professional are 233Mhz, 64Mb RAM and 1.5GB hard drive space. I have a Toshiba Tecra 8000 that still runs XP, a little slow, but has run smoothly for 5 years.

The setupdd.sys error is most likely a due to a defective hardware like RAM. Try installing only one ram if you have two to see if either one is defective; it should work for most users.

SOURCE: gateway laptop wont recognize the disk drive

You must "setup" your new drive. You should have received a cd or floppy with the new drive. Purpose of that disk is to prepare the drive to receive information (format it, partician it, make it so it can tell the BIOS who it is and were it is located).

Do you do maintenance regularly on your drive? Clean and defragment? If not - please return your old drive to your computer. Get CClean a free download (google it). Run it to clean temp files. Also run the Registry cleaner. Next get Spy Bot - Search and destroy from www.PCWorld.com another free download. Run that to get rid of spyware. Get Regcleaner from www.comodo.com (free) and run that. and lastly, visit www.pcpitstop.com and have then do a free scan of your computer. Read their very comprehensive report. Then check your computer - run any better? No - replace the drive.

I hope this works for you ... good luck ... appreciate posivtive comments if this response pleases you

Need SATA HDD password for acer aspire 5100

When everything gets done loading the screen says:

Unknown Disc
<There is no disk in this drive.>

it gives that error message 4 times on the "select partition" list

Reguardless of what i click (besides Quit) being Install or Delete, I get the Blue Screen of Death

"PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA"
Technical Information
STOP: 0x00000050
setupdd.sys Address F77F8245 base ar F77CA000

I did some research and I came up with possible RAM faultyness, so, I switched the RAM chips from my Acer to the AW (which obviously work, or else i wouldnt be typing this) and i get the identical blue screen error

What bugs me about that specific error is before it even says "Click button to boot from CD" it says RAM cleared... video shadowed etc. etc.

From beginning to end this is what i did:
1. Swapped out new HD
2. Used Utility disc to set-up HD
3. Attempted to install XP
4. swapped RAM chips
5. Attempted again

im at a complete stump to what to do to fix this... any help would be GREATLY appreciated

I am having trouble running setup on my desktop

To resolve this problem, replace the missing or corrupted Ntfs.sys file:
  1. Use the Windows XP startup disks or the Windows XP CD to restart your computer.
  2. When the "Welcome to Setup" screen appears, press R to select the To repair a Windows XP installation using Recovery Console, press R option.
  3. Type the number of the Windows installation that you want to access from the Recovery Console, and then press ENTER.
  4. Type the administrator password when you are prompted, and then press ENTER. If no administrator password exists, just press ENTER.
  5. At the command prompt, type the following commands (press ENTER after each command): cd \windows\system32\drivers

ren ntfs.sys ntfs.oldNote This step renames the corrupted Ntfs.sys file to Ntfs.old. If the Ntfs.sys file is not found, the file is missing.
  6. At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER: copy cd:\i386\ntfs.sys drive:\windows\system32\driversWhere cd is the drive letter for the CD-ROM drive that contains the Windows XP CD, and drive is the drive where you installed Windows XP.
  7. Remove the Windows XP CD from your CD-ROM drive, type quit at a command prompt, and then press ENTER to quit the Recovery Console.
  8. Restart the computer.
