Question about Philips LX3600D System
Right! Ask yourself this question: does it stick at the same point on every disc you play? If you answer YES then it's highly likely that something is preventing the laser from travelling to the outer edges of the disc (plays from inside outwards). If you are handy with a screwdriver take the cover off the player (power off).
When you have done this switch the unit on (DO NOT LOOK INTO LASER DIRECTLY) then put a disc into the machine and let it play.
When it reaches the sticking point try to observe why it is doing it and there a few reasons for this. By the way, when observing a disc playing in a DVD or CD player be at least 3 feet from it, looking at it from the side NOT ABOVE!
1) The lubricant on the chrome rail where the laser unit slides may have become sticky. If this is the case, use some very light oil by applying it with a cotton bud on the rail gently and carefully. Put oil onto the bud first and get rid of excess.
2) The ribbon cable that is connected to the laser block MAY be rising upward as the laser goes outward (I have had that once or twice). If that is the problem you'll have to reposition the cable by taking it out of the laser block and reshape it slightly (there is a plastic clip holding it in place).
3) There may be a fault with the actual mechanism preventing it from travelling - it's possible that something might have broken off or getting jammed in the mech.
ALWAYS REMEMBER!!! Switch OFF the power before you start work on any electrical item. THINK SAFETY!
I hope this has been of help and I will cross my fingers for you! The best of British luck!
