Xbox 360 disk drive will not open sounds like it wants to but dont

when a disk drive is either pushed in or pulled out to fast, the gear is likely to be stripped you can either ignore the problem or replace the gear its not that big of a deal aslong as you dont care

It sounds like you have blown air into your disk drive, doing this spreads the dust which can end up over the lens, try a cd cleaning disk, this should remove any dust that has settled on the lens.

Interesting. Not all Xbox 360s use the same type DVD drive. There are at least 3 different brands - Benq, Samsung, and Hatachi. There are various ways of determining this, besides opening the Xbox 360. Based on the drive type, there are different versions of firmware(the software on the drive that communicates with the Xbox 360). Some firmware modifications Microsoft doesn't want consumers to know because it allows the playing of cloned dvds.

This has been a problem with some 360s and it is usually the disk drive itself, if the game loads on a different 360 but yours won't, this is the case. If under warranty call xbox. if not you would need to replace it yourself or buy a new xbox. Their are various websites selling the drives.

In very rare instances I believe that the dvd drive of your xbox 360 might have been disconnected.In this case,it dispays an "open tray" message.For this you will have to open your 360 but please take it to the dealer if you are still protected by warranty.Good luck.Thanks for reading.

Not sure about (MTU) but an (MU) is a Memory Unit that you can use to save game progress if you dont have a hard drive, they are the size of the old ps2 memory cards and slot into one of the two openings next to your disk drive, :) hope this helps

if this on the white 360 console/s.
it means the disk drive most probably crashed, i dont know about fixing them, but the black 360 consoles do have a higher reputation of longer lasting. dont know if this helps tho.

If you ever open the disk tray and then the power source is cut, the tray will try to ''autofix'' itself by making whatever state it was at the default position. This doesnt sound like whats going on for you, though.

If you can turn your 360 on and go to the main screen, try opening it with the ''open tray'' button on the bottom of the main screen.

If that fixes it, your problem is a faulty disk tray button.

If the tray still does that with the xbox main menu button, then its a mechanical thing with the tray.

Go to walmart and buy one of those air spray bottles (like an airsol can to clean dust out of PCs) and spray it into the 360 tray once it is opened. Aim the spray on the sides, what it sounds like is dust or something collected on the gears of the disc tray. If you have your 360 on carpet or a dusty surface this is probobly the problem.

Thats about the only thing you can do without opening the 360 up yourself (IF ITS STILL UNDER WARRANTY DONT OPEN IT) that will void the warranty. So if the airsol spray doesnt do it, then send it in to microsoft.

Go to Youtube and look up opening XBOX 360. There are lots of videos and tutorials explaining how to open up your XBOX. JUST REMEBER TO KEEP THE SILVER STICKER INTACT SO YOU CAN PUT IT BACK AND NOT VOID YOUR WARRANTY
