My Husqvarna riding mower knocks when it is in low. And some times it back fires. I ran it with low oil. Is my Husq shoot? Can this be repaired? How much will it cost? Mr.fellbad.

This can cost quite a bit, The easiest & most cost effective way is what they call a short block this is the main engine all you do is put all the outside parts off your engine onto it. These can cost from $800 upwards depending on what size your engine is.

Husq 2348 riding mower blades engage, run for maybe 5 minutes, then disengage on their own

Sounds like your PTO switch or clutch has gone bad. Unfortunately, it is usually the clutch.

How many quart of oil does if take for a change ?

I think for your mower it is 48 oz. You should have a tag under the hood to the right that lists all the common replacement stuff and part numbers for them and quantities. There at the bottom of the list I think is the weight of the oil (30W) and the quantity (48 oz I think). It has been a while since I worked on one like yours though, but I think that is how they do the Husq.

The mower gets slower and slower and then stops moving completely. I turn it off for five or ten minutes and it's okay ... occuring more frequently ....

The hydrostat transmission is low on fluid. Check your manual, some of these can be filled...most cannot. If yours can't be filled/doesn't have a fill opening, Husq is going to recommend to replace the transmission (sealed unit). There has been limited success by trying to top off the trans thru the vent tube. This is not a Husq approved repair, and is very slow and tedious. But it is a lot less expensive. Good luck!

Clutch adjustment

I had the exact same problem on my Husq 2148 which arose just after a new drive belt was put on. There is a cage around the front, engine, pulley which keeps the belt from flying off I guess. After staring at the belt for a long, 2 beers, time I discovered the repair guy had put the belt inside the cage on one side, where it is supposed to be, but outside the cage on the other side. This caused the problem you described and it ran much better in reverse than forward. If your problem arose after a belt change, I would start looking there, if not then I would check the 2 springs which keep back tension on the pedal. It took me 3 more beers to get the thing put on right.

No manual for Husquvarna ride on mower model 4140H

Don't know if this helps but the owners manual for my Husq YTH2148
indicates that the transmission fluid is not to be changed, ever. If there is a problem, the whole unit is to be replaced.

These mowers, along with many craftsman rider mowers, are actually made by Roper. Perhaps if you googled around a bit you could get more info relating to service of the transaxle.
