Ice maker makes too much ice

Kitchenaid bottom freezer: the ice maker makes too much ice, causing the ice tray to knock ice cubes off into the bottom of the freezer any time we open the freezer. if we take out 3 or 4 cubes to use it immediately starts making ice and filling the ice tray up too full again. there is nothing broken, it just makes enough too much ice to be a nuisance. help?

In my Kitchen Aid bottom freezer there is a metal arm(?) that I lift up to stop the ice maker from making ice. When I start running low on ice, I push the metal arm(?) back down for it to make ice again. Hope this is the solution for your Kitchen Aid too.

If the problem is that the tray just makes a little bit too much ice (if you leave for a week, the icemaker doesn't try to fill the entire freezer with ice- it just makes a few too many and then stops) then you need to attach something to the detector arm so that it hits ice sooner, rather than after the pile is too high.

Probably the mechanism inside the icemaker is a little out of whack, but to open the icemaker unit and try to operate is virtually impossible.

If you can find a piece of stiff insulation foam, or something similar that you can attach to the arm with a couple nylon cable ties, that would work great- now the arm will "detect" a full load when the bin is not quite as full.

MY Kitchenaid model KSCS25INSS00 refrig ice maker is only producing crushed ice...no cubes...

There a button on the control panel label "cube ice" if you push this it will remove a gate up in the front of the ice make. If it not working. Remove the ice tray and you will see long rod on the ice tray. Move the rod back and forth afew time. Also, on the back wall behind the ice tray is a small latch, make sure that this latch is free to move. There could be ice on it remove the ice. Then reinstall the tray. GB....stewbison

Model was bought 1/92. Ice cube maker not working although we hear a churning sound that seems to signal something's trying to work! What do you think? KitchenAid KBRP20EMSS Bottom Freezer Refrigerator

Those ice makers get stuck from frozen ice portions. Try feeling around to see if anything in the icemaker is frozen up or any foreign object. Please do this with fridge unplugged. If you can't find any frozen or other obstruction then use the hair dryer to defrost the ice maker. This is only a guess from past experiences. My kids once put pop cicle sticks in the ice maker wanting to make ice cube on a stick. Goodluck Google burdfrenzy

Our ice maker is making 5-10 cubes per day. Ice

OK, Have a look (if you can) and see if one of the water jets might be broken, or if there might be a defect in the tray. I can't help any further i'm afraid.

Jenn-Air bottom freezer ice maker not working

I took the arm of the ice-making machine out of the slot and put it back in, pushing it snugly inside the slot, then raised and lowered it several times. Then, with the arm in the up (stop making ice) position, I felt inside the ice-making tray, where I noted there were ice cubes as well as a sheet of ice at the base of the ice-making tray. I poured approximately 24 oz. of hot tap water into the tray to melt the sheet of ice. I turned the freezer temp control to "warmer". I think the freezer temp setting was too cold, causing the ice maker to freeze the water before it could make cubes. I have a working ice maker again!

The adjusta cube ice maker has an on/off switch. To stop the ice from overfilling and being knocked off when you open the freezer door turn the ice maker off and then back on as needed.

Water overran ice maker tray

It could be one of two things. The fill cycle could be too long causing the water to overflow or the icemaker may not be ejecting all the cubes out of the tray. A normal fill cycle is very short. Maybe 6 seconds long. So I would check and see how long the fill cycle is and when it stops check and see how much the tray is filled with water. I would also check and make sure that all the ice cubes are ejecting next time you hear it harvest.
