I had the same problem with the light flashing instead of staying steady, I called and the help desk said this "should not be a problem". I then wondered if my screen was on as yours is while charging. I can't see the screen because the flip is screen down while charging. I lifted the computer up to look at the screen and saw a notice on the Flip's screen that said "It's really hot, charging paused". So, I'm assuming the flashing light is to inform you that the charging has been paused and maybe you should disconnect for a bit to let it cool off. I'm letting it cool off as I write this so I'll get back here if there is any further news.

I cut the plastic wrap on the battery pack to reveal the fourth battery end.(2 batteries, 4 ends) and it's working.

What I see is:\r\n1) That`s not the temperature of the battery pack that is high
2) There is a high over temperature in the plug of the USB when we get the alert
3) The little sensor of the temperature of the pack is "feeling" the temperature of its cristal liquid screen. (you can see it near the (+) jack. up left side)
May be if we transpose this sensor to the very botton of the inside of the camera batt pack place. So maybe it will read the correct temperature of the batterypack whiling its been charged.

I tried all the"fixes" for the battery problem but none worked.
I love the camera so I emailed Amazon asking if they would give me a
credit for the defective battery or I would return the camera.
Amazon gave me a $30 credit to keep the camera as opposed to returning it.
Using my own AA batteries is fine with me.

Remove the camera from your computer or from the charger. Let it cool. Then, charge again. Remove the cover of the camera to allow more air to cool the batteries while charging. Flip explains how here:

You need to first Charge your camcorder battery pack.(mine had to charge over night) the first time. Plug the little arm that extends from the camera into a USB 2 port on your computer and make sure your computer stays ON during the charging, otherwise the camcorder will not charge.
A red light will come on during charge and goes off when charged. If it does not come while plugged in try a different USB port. Screen should light up temporarily and Red light showing charging on front of camcorder.
IF YOU HAVE ALREADY DONE THE ABOVE, and are having the problem, pull the battery pack out and reseat it back in there again. maybe connection not good. OH, and I think mine had plastic covering the metal connections you may want to check that too -remove if so----- BUT the entire white plastic around the batteries STAYS IN PLACE do not remove that.
If that still doesn't work I would try regular AA batteries in it if in fact you have The FLIP ULTRA HD it will take regular batteries too. IF they work - then maybe you got a defective Rechargeable Battery pack and should contact Flip Video at http://www.theflip.com/en-us/
