SOURCE: chain brake band will not release to replace the clutch cover

Hi there
Sometimes that's not an easy job . I work for a Husqvarna dealer and I have that problem frequently . First try to get the clutch cover on place (do not use the bolts) and push in @ the top part of the clutch cover , then try to move the clutch lever backwards to release the band (better if done with two people) . If that does not work the only way is remove the clutch lever with the 2 bolts on each side and put the lever on the clutch cover (top metal piece that looks like a clover)to release the band (again with 2 people one holds the clutch cover and the other one the lever pulling the lever backwards) .
Hope this help

SOURCE: How to replace chain on McCulloch chain saw

The chain brake is engaged. support the cover firmly (as it will require a lot of pressure to pull the handle) and pull back towards the operator. When it is re-set, it will then fit properly to be assembled to the saw.

I’m happy to assist further over the phone at https://www.6ya.com/expert/rolandw_c013176d62ee17ae

Testimonial: "Fantastic! I was pulling the handle to try to get it unengaged, but wasnt applying enough pressure. I had to apply quite a lot of force to do it. Thnx"

SOURCE: how do i release the clutch band to replace chain

Husqvarna - IPL, 235, 235e 240, 240e, 2008-01, Chain Saw (example - may not be your saw):
http://weborder.husqvarna.com/order_static/doc/usa/2006/I06000/I0601076.pdf
See Detail A or B (same pn), pn 503 057940. You can use a Crescent Wrench on one of the ears (left end) to reset it. With the cover positioned with pn 503 057940 in the upper left rotate it CW until it nests, to reset it.

This works quite well:
Reset Chain Brake by Dolfoff
Please follow this link, http://www.fixya.com/support/t3102817-re_install_side_cover_after_chain
Cursor down to “Best Solution”, while there click the “Was this helpful? [Yes]” button
If you do not have a vise a large C clamp to a work surface might work, you may still need a block or two of wood.

You can download the IPL for you saw here:
HusqvarnaUSA.com
http://www.husqvarna.com/us/homeowner/support/download-manuals/
Enter the 3 digit model number (no XPs, Es, just the numbers)
Serial number decode – useful when downloading IPLs and Manuals
06 1500198
06 = year produced – 2006 (single digit before 2000)
15 = week produced - March
00198 = 198th unit Husky produced that week

SOURCE: I am trying to replace the chain on my saw. When

Your chain brake mechanism is in the "locked" position...you will need to release it. Some husky's have the handle on the cover. If this is the case simply pull the handle towards what would be the rear of the saw and install the cover.
Other saws have the handle on the saw and some little cogs mesh with cogs in the side cover. In order to unlock this one I use two 1/4" x 2 1/2 inch or so bolts in a vise. They get clamped with the bolts protruding vertically above the vise jaws and are spaced so the the tips of the bolt will fit in between the cogs. Study the assembly and determine the direction of rotation required to release the brake. Place the side cover face down over the bolts with the bolt tips in between the cogs and rotate until the brake cams over and releases. be sure you know which direction to rotate the cover as a bit of force is required to get things moving.
Once the brake is released you should be good to go.
Take care.

For the blue max chain saw 45cc 8902, to attach the bar and chain it says to pull back on the chain brake to remove the clutch cover. The chain brake wont pull back. What am I missing.

Hi. They are expressing that the brake needs to be in the released position. If the brake is in the locked position. You will not be able to remove the side cover. The brake would be locked up against the clutch. The handle only has two positions, Locked and unlocked. Please verify that the brake is functioning (locking and unlocking). Write back if there are any questions.

How to release the brake

You need to load the brake to enable it to be re fitted, you can either remove the clutch and sprocket, the side case will then fit back onto the saw, you can then us the hand guard on the saw to load it, or you can remove the hand guard from the saw and use this as a tool to load the brake.

Can't get chain to move. Engine starts ok but seems to be burning clutch. Has not been used for 18 months.

Hi there, I suspect that the chain brake has been activated. To release it, pull back the front guard (in front of the front handle) until it clicks. The chain should now be free to move. Happy sawing !

Husqvarna 137poorly works at full throttle

it seems to me the you have either a clutch problem or a spur gear problem.if it is the clutch the clutch drum will be blue.witch means you need to replace the clutch and drum.if it is a spur gear problem you need a new spur gear.to check it out, take the chain and bar off the saw.now look at where the chain rides in the gear.there should be no markings on the gear.if the spur gear has any dents on the gear then the gear is bad.if you are getting denting on the surface then you are over tighting the chain.this causes the chain drivers to ware also.most likely this is your problem.hope this helps, let me know if you have any more questions............

I have an Echo CS-440 18" chain saw and the chain came off. Now that I have put it back on, it won't move either by hand or when the engine is running. Help

OK.  This is simple. Either the chain brake is engaged or the chain is too tight. Start by pulling back on the chain brake toward you.  There should be a "click" if the brake was released.  If the chain is still immovable, try resetting the chain tension. 1. remove the spark plug wire 2. loosen the two clutch cover nuts 3.hold the bar nose up and loosen the tension adjustment screw until the chain moves freely without becoming loose. 4. tighten both clutch cover nuts with the bar held up. 5. Pull the chain around the bar by hand.  Loosen the adjustment if you feel tight spots. 6. When the chain is properly tensioned, tighten clutch cover nuts securely.  Do not overtighten! 7.  Check chain brake operation and release. 8. Replace spark plug wire and operate  saw.
Hope this solution will Fixya.
