Question about GE Dishwashers

Dishwasher hot water connection

Home Depot says their installers will not remove my existing dishwasher with my new one because it connects to the hot water with copper tubing. I could not get a straight answer from them as to why? Is this unusual?

Tell Home Depot they agreed to include installation with purchase, and if they refuse to honor their agreement, you will sue them in small claims court. To start a small claims action, call your local ton or city court and ask for directions on filing a claim

Connectingit hooking it up

The exact list of parts for a dishwasher hook-up would depend on the existing plumbing and electrical . There are three hook-ups needed; a hot water feed, typically from under the sink. A Tee is installed on the hot water line with a valve, and the hot water line to the dishwasher is connected to the valve. A drain line from the dishwasher is installed under the sink. It connects to the sink drain. The Electrical connection can be made using the appropriate electrical cord.
There are specific guidelines and considerations on how to connect the drain line under the sink, and what is required for the electrical hook-up. If you do a search on "how to install a dishwasher" you will be able to find extensive information.

Don't understand the incomprehensible door and general installation instructions for the aqua star. Just uses pictures, anywhere available that uses WORDS?

Hello,
  • 1 what you'll need
Electric drill and hole cutting bit
    Screwdrivers
    Pliers
    Adjustable wrench
    Level
    Teflon pipe tape
    Drain pipe for dishwasher
Dishwasher connection kit - available at your home store (should contain water supply line for dishwasher as well as necessary connectors and compression couplers).
    New dishwasher

  • 2Determine that you have access to the hot water supply line, the drainpipe and an electrical connection under the sink. Installing the dishwasher will require extending the hot water supply line to the dishwasher, connecting the dishwasher drain to the drainpipe under the sink, and plugging the dishwasher in. If your home was not plumbed in anticipation of a dishwasher, you will need to change some fittings under the sink to make these connections possible. (See below)
  • 3Read the instruction manual that comes with your new dishwasher. Installing a dishwasher is straightforward but you want to be sure you understand and are comfortable with the necessary steps.

Size and installation for instant water heater

Ariston gl4.0 should be fine if used inline with your hot water heater. Used alone it will likely run out when dishwasher is filling and you are using sink.To use your existing hot water for backup: 1 connect existing HOT water line to cold (inlet) on ariston, 2 Then HOT (outlet) from ariston to sink and dw. If you want instant hot water at a sink 10 feet away: use 3/8 pex pipe from ariston to sink, so you only have to run off a cupful or 2 before hot water arrives at sink.

    My stainless steel dishwasher smells

You need to check to see if the drain line runs from the dishwasher pump to either a "T" on your kitchen sink drain or if it connects directly to the garbage disposal. Either connection is okay. However, water can run downhill from either connection to your dishwasher. To prevent dirty water from your sink or garbage disposal from running downhill to the dishwasher, you may have to install a dishwasher air gap. This can be purchased at a appliance parts store or a home improvement store like a Home Depot or Lowes. It is a "Y" shaped device that should be installed above the dishwasher drain line connection under the sink. As water will not run up hill, you need to make sure that the Air Gap is installed higher than the drain line's connection under the sink. "The Air Gap device should be mounted as high as you can under the sink."

I've moved to another home and would like to re-connect my dishwasher. I am new to this & need to tap into the hot water line from the sink. HELP! How do I run the water line in an L configuration and then...

If you new home doesn't already have a branch line for a dishwaher, I'd get a plumber to install a copper T on the existing line then a second shut-off valve for the dishwasher. If there is ever a problem with the dishwasher, you can shut off its water supply without intrupting the sink water.

Can i connect a dishwasher to the hot water pipe??

In my opinion you always connect to the hot water unless there's some compelling reason not to like your dishwasher's manual says to connect to cold. Your dishwasher will heat up whatever water you have connected it to, but since you have a tank of preheated water already sitting in your water heater you should use that.

The "resin in the water softener" example, I think, makes no sense since your dishwasher will heat up the water to something like 160 degrees Fahrenheit no matter if the input is cold or hot...

Just bought a whirlpool dishwasher & unshure how to wire it in ????

There is a connection box at the bottom of the dishwasher that you can run an electric connection to. You will have to get some electrical nuts to connect the wires. The other end of the wire you will have to attach to an existing source (electrical outlet, or directly to a fusebox. You will need to consult some Home wiring books, like from Home Depot or Reader's Digest to make sure you do it exactly right and are in code. Good Luck!

I have to connect a 'Y' piece connector to my dishwasher as there is currently no cold water getting to it. How do i go about doing this?

If I'm not mistaken only hot water goes to the dishwasher. What you have is a valve with two outlets usually 1/4 or 3/8 one goes to supply side of sink faucet and other to the supply line of the dishwasher. This valve connects to the hot water supply line of the house. The stub outs should be close to the D/W. If you want to use cold water then you will have to connect this valve to the cold water supply and then connect one side to the dishwasher and the other to the the cold side of sink faucet. Also I believe that dishwashers need the water to be at a certain temperature +/- 150 degrees.
Home Depot/Lowes sell the valves fairly cheap. Hope this helps.

    How to install diswasher

To get the water to the dishwasher, it depends on your plumbing setup. If you have shutoffs under your sink(1/2" X 3/8" compression angle stop), you will need to buy a 1/2" x 3/8" compression double stop. This will be easy to change.

#1 Drill a 1 1/2" hole in the back bottom of the cabinet to run your water, drain line, and power cord through.
#2 First turn off the water at the Hot Water Tank, or the House supply, and turn on the sink to relieve the pressure.
#3 Next remove the Hot supply stop, and install the double stop.( The nut and ferrul do not have to be removed, as they will attach to the double stop. Reinstall the hot supply to the sink to one of the connections on the double stop.
    #4 Install a 3/8" x 3/8" x 48" braided flex with the 1/2" MIP
x 3/8" compression ell at the dishwasher.
#5 Install the drain hose supplied with your dishwasher at the bottom of the dishwasher.
#6 Install a 6' pigtail power cord to the power box under your dishwasher.
#7 Feed the drain line, power cord and water supply through the hole in the back of the cabinet at the bottom. As you push the dishwasher back into the enclosure, you will need to feed the 3 lines into the cabinet under the sink.
#8 Attach the water line to the open connection on the double stop.
#9 The drain line will attach to your garbage disposal.(If you have one) Be sure to knock the small piece of plastic out of the drain connection, and retrieve it out of the disposal, before connecting the dishwasher drain line.
#11 Raise the middle of the drain line as high as possible under the cabinet under the sink, preferably attach it to a screw to the bottom of the counter top. This will keep the dishwasher from drawing a back siphonage and getting a bad odor.
#12 Plug in the dishwasher. Assuming you have electrical under your sink. Otherwise an electrical outlet may need to be installed.
#13 Balance the dishwasher using the front legs. After you adjust the depth of the dishwasher, and the level. Use the 2 mounting screws included with the dishwasher to fasten the 2 clips above the door to the bottom of the counter top.
#14 Remove the installation manual and styrofoam from the tray, and turn the dishwasher on. Inspect for leaks as you run a cycle.
#15 Attach the bottom kick panels

    You are done.

If you have any questions, please let me know.
